IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-PLANTERS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of vthe: same To all whom 'it .may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY GORTNER, of N ashport, in the county of Muskingum, and in the State of Ohio, `have invented 'certain new'and useful Improvements in Corn-Planters;V and'do hereby'declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof',

reference being had to the accompanying drawings,

and to the letters of reference marked thereon, mak?v ing a part of this specification. l

The nature of my invention consists in the construction aud general arrangement of a corn-plantel', aswill be hereinafter fully s et forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, 'to make Aand use the same, I

will now proceed to describe its'construetion and operation, referring `to the annexeddrawingspiu 'Which- -Iligure l is a plan view-of the machine;

At suitable points, under the sidesA A, are secured theshares G C, which prepare the ground for the corn, which is dropped from the hopper through .vertical openings in the sides A A'. l,

The inclined bottom of the hopper or box D has a three-cornered orice, in which isplaced a scraper, b,

of rubber or other elastic material, and under said opening is a shoulder, e, against which the lower curved end ofthe dropper E bears, said droppervbeing pivoted on the outside of' the inclined bottom.

The dropper E is, on itsinner side, provided with aA groove or recess, in which is' placed aul adjustable spring, d, for the purpose of making said recess larger or smaller, at pleasure. i

hinged to the middle cross-piece B, and held in an upright position by means of the spring 'H. The driver, on his seat I, presses on said board G with his foot, which turns the droppers' E E sufficient to drop' the corn, as above mentioned, and as soon as the pressure is removed, the spring H will move the -foot-board and the droppers back to their original -position. l

Having 'thus fully described "my invention, .What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` 1.y The sides A A', constructed as described, in the shapeof sleigh-runners, and provided with shares C C, and pins or teeth a a, substantially as shown and described.
