To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN J. HORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Surrey, in the county of \Vard, State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to safety bridle attachments.

The object. of the invention resides in the provision of an attachment of the character named which will enable the driver to easily control and hold a headstrong animal.

lVith this object in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views; and in which,

Referring to the drawings, there is shown a bridle which includes a crown strap 10 and cheek straps 11 and 12 which support at their ends a bit 13. Secured centrally to the crown strap 10 is a yoke A which carries at each end an eye 14. The yoke A is formed of a pair of hollow sections 15 and 16 constructed preferably of leather and in said sections are incased

17 and 18 respectively, one end of the spring 17 being secured to a rivet 15) mounted in the yoke, while the corresponding end of the spring 18 is secured to a rivet 20 likewise mounted in the yoke. The free end of the spring 17 is connected to one end of a strap 21 which is provided at its free end with a buckle 21. Another strap 23 has one end connected to the free end of the spring 18 and its free end provided with a buckle 23. A. choke strap 25 extends through the I eyes 1-1.- at the ends of the yoke A and has its r terminals coi'mected to the buckles 21' and 23 respectively and extended through the opposite loops of the bit. The ends of the choke strap 25 have secured thereto rings 22 and 24 respectively for attachment to suitable reins. By this construction it will be apparent that should an ordinary pull be exerted upon the reins it will be without effect on the choke strap 25 by reason of the tendency of the

17 and 18 to hold said strap in its normal or released position. However, should a pull of considerable force be exerted upon the reins, the tension of the

springs

17 and 18 will be gradually overcome Such elongation of the

springs

17 and 18 will cause the

21 and 23 to be drawn away from the yoke A and the choke strap 25 will then be forced against the throat of the animal to produce the desired choking cifect and enable the driver to soon obtain the desired control.

\Vhat is claimed is:

1. An attachment for b'ridles comprising a yoke member adapted for attachment to the crown strap of a bridle, an eye secured to each end of the yoke member, a pair of springs each having one end secured to the yoke member, a choke strap passing through the eyes at each end of the yoke member, con ncctions between each end of the choke strap and the free ends of said springs and means for connecting each terminal of the choke strap with a rein.

An attachment for bridles comprising a yoke member adapted for attachment to the crown strap of a bridle, an eye on each end of the yoke member, a pair of springs each having one end secured to the yoke member and normally incased in said member, a choke strap passing through the eyes at the ends of said yoke member, connections between each end of the choke strap and the free ends of said springs and means for connecting each terminal of the choke strap with a rein.

3. The combination with a bridle comprising a crown strap and cheek straps supporting a bit, of a yoke member attached to the crown strap of the bridle, an eye on each end of the yoke member, a pair of springs each and said springs accordingly elongated.-
