the construction of the shell and the method of connecting the operating parts, and the invention consists in the parts and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the shaft, shell and crank; Fig. 2 a vertical section of the stand; and Fig. 3 a plan view.
A designates the base of the stand, B the lower housing, C the upper housing, D a shell rotatably mounted in the housing and adapted to receive a shaft bolt E which actu ates the switch crank, F the switch crank, G a rock shaft mounted in the housings at right angles to the shaft bolt, H a lever for actuating the rock shaft, and I a weight carried by the lever. The shell carries a crank cl formed integral therewith. The crank is segmental in form, is provided on its upper face with beveled gear teeth d, and constitutes a segmental gear adapted to be actuated by a beveled pinion 9 fixed to the rock shaft G. The shell is provided, at its lower end with a wedge shaped recess (Z and with slots 6Z3 extending upwardly from the recess. The shaft bolt 12 is threaded at its upper end to receive a nut J, and has fixed to its lower end a wedge shaped block 6 adapted to take into a wedge shaped opening 7' in the switch crank 1* and into the Wedge shaped recess d .in the shell. The switch crank is provided with an upwardly extending collar f adapted to receive the lower end of the shell. The shaft bolt is provided with a hole adapted to receive a pin K which also takes through U-shaped slots j in the upper face of nut J and locks the nut and bolt against relative rotation.
In assembling the stand, the switch crank F is positioned with its opening f embracing the wedge block 6 on shaft bolt E and the shaft bolt placed in the shell D with the wedge block taking into the wedge shaped recess d Nut J is then applied to the threaded end of the shaft bolt and screwed down until it engages with the top of the shell. Further rotation of the nut draws the lock shaft upward and forces the wedge block into engagement with the walls of the wedge shaped opening f in the switch crank and the wedge shaped recess d in the base of the shell. The base of the shell being free to expand by reason of the recess d and the slots d the action of the wedge block forces the periphery of the shell into engagement with the interior wall of the collar f on the switch crank and locks both shell and lock bolt into absolutely rigid engagement with the switch stand. 1
The switch is connected and operated in the usual manner.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination, in a switch stand, of
a housing; a shell rotatably mounted in the housing and having a segmental gear formed integral therewith; a shaft bolt mounted in the shell; a switch crank adapted to be actuated by the shaft bolt; means for locking the shaft bolt against rotation in the shell; a rock shaft mounted in the housing; a pinion carried by the rock shaft and meshing with the segmental gear, and means for actuating the rock shaft.
2. The combination, in a switch stand, of a housing; a shell rotatably mounted in the housing, the shell being provided, at its lower end, with a wedge shaped recess; a switch crank provided with an opening; a shaft mounted in the housing and having its upper end threaded to receive a nut; a wedge shaped block fixed to the shaft and adapted to take into the opening in the switch crank and the recess in the shell; a nut adapted to lock the bolt in position; a segmental gear carried by the shaft; a rock shaft; a pinion carried by the rock shaft and adapted to mesh with the segmental gear; and means for actuating the rock shaft.
3. The combination, in a switch stand, of a housing; a shell rotatably mounted in the housing, the shell being provided, at its lower end, with a wedge shaped recess, and

a rock shaft; a pinion carried by the rock shaft and adapted to mesh with the segmental gear; and means for actuating the rock shaft.
5. The combination, in a switch stand, of a housing; a shell rotatably mounted in the housing-,the shelf'being provided at its lower end, with a wedge shaped recess and with slot-s extending upwardly from said recess; a switch crank provided with a wedge shaped opening; a shaft mounted in the housing and having the upper end threaded to receive a nut; a wedge shaped block fixed to the shaft and adapted to take into the opening in the switch crank and the recess in the shell; a nut adapted to lock the bolt in position; a segmental gear carried by the shaft;
a rock shaft a pinion carried by the rock shaft and adapted to mesh with the segmental gear; and means for actuating the rock shaft.
