Be it known that I, CARL J. LJUNGGREN, a subject of the Kingof Sweden, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closure-Locking Means, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention relates to closure locking means for gun breeches, vault doors, ports and manholes. The same is a division of my pending patent application Ser. No. 451,444 filed Sept. 2, 1908.
My invention is primarily purposed to avoid the necessity of the employment of screw threads upon the bearing surfaces of the closure member, and afford a maximum pressure-resisting surface. distributed in a manner to minimize the strain upon the structure.
Additional objects are simplicity and inexpensivcness of construction.
To the above enumerated ends essentially my invention consists in the novel construction of parts set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying"drawings which constitute a part-70f this specification, Figures 1 and 2 are rear and side elevations respectively of my closure member, Fig. 3, a rear elevation of the stationary member, Fig. 4, a section on line :0 x of Fig. 3, Fig. 5, a rear elevation of the closure member in engaged position within the orifice of the stationary member, and Fig. (3, a section on line 1 y of Fig. 5.

My invention, in its present embodiment, comprises a closure member A which is a plug, door, or block adapted to be seated in a stationary member B which is either a breech or jamb. The supporting, inserting,
and rotating mechanism for the member A is familiar to the art, and hence herein omitted.
The closure member A comprises a substantially cylindrical body a provided intermediate its length with annularly arranged segments C interspaced equidistant from each other, each comprising a plurality of radially graduated stepped portions-l),
jamb comprises a collar B fixed in any suit able manner in the wall I whose-outer and inner faces are at i and 2' respectively. The collar incloses a substantially cylindrical orifice J of preferably reduced diameter at its front end to form an abutment K. The
orifice has a circumferential series of radially graduated entrance openings L, M, N which merge into 'annularly arranged radially graduated channels or seats 0, P, Q, re-
spectively, having inwardly converging in-' clinecl side bearing faces 0, 0, p, p, and g, and non-inclined radial end faces. or abutments 0 p and g respectively.
The parts A and B are interengaged thus. The former disposed as in Fig. 2 is introduced into the member B from ri ht to left as viewed in Fig. 6, the steppe portions D, E, F registering inthe channels L, M, N respectively. The member A is then turned in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 5 to bring the portions D, E, F into the seats 0, P, Q respectively, with the inwardly converging faces d, d, e, e, and f, f, in frictional contact with the bearing faces 0, 0, p, p, and g, g, respectively; and.
