ROTARY PUMP FOR GENERATING PRESSURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, CHARLES DICKIE, a subject of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. and residing at Kimberley, Cape Colony, South Africa, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Rotary Pumps for Generating Pressure, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a pressure generator i. 6., apparatus for creating pressure in a fluid and maintaining that pressure steadily for any length of time with a minimum expenditure of power; the said generator is principally intended to be used in connection with high speed turbines and other rotary machines, but is applicable for driving all machines in which hydraulic pressure is used.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention Figure 1 is a vertical section; Fig. 2 is a section at right angles thereto; Fig. 3 is a part section through the line aa of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 shows a general arrangement of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawings, the said generator comprises a cylindrical casing A open at both ends and a cam-shaped disk B within the casing A working eccentrically 011 a shaft or trunnion C, all the working parts being placed inside a tank C capable of sustaining any required pressure.
The construction of the cam-disk B is such that for part of a revolution the fluid to be compressed is allowed to flow in by gravity and fill the space D formed between the clepressed face of the disk B and the cylindrical casing and inclosed by projecting flanges B (Fig. 3) this fluid being passed through an outlet at A into the tank which contains the compressed fluid during the remaining portion of the revolution and so maintaining the pressure constant. The division between the inlet and discharge side of the cam is formed by a swinging plate E pivoted to the top of the casing at e and making a joint perfectly tight on the cam during the complete revolution. The inlet connection F is connected to the outside of the tank by a flexible sleeve F. The discharge may be taken from the tank 0 to any machine to be driven by compressed fluid. A rod 00 is connected to the pin X and is led through a stufling box a" to the exterior of the tank C. The purpose of the rod w is to guide the easing A in its movement within the tank C.
It will be understood that the rotary movement of the cam disk B produces an orbital movementof the casing A: and a vibratory corresponding movement of the rod 00: the flexible sleeve F permitting such movement to take place without interruption of the inflow of liquid.
The advantages claimed for this invention are as follows :--(1) Reduction of friction to a minimum. No necessity for lubrication; the fluid used being its own lubricant. (3) The development of large power with small amount of weight. (4) No loss of fluid.
Having now described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A rotary pump for generating and maintaining pressure, comprising a tank, a cylindrical casing A open at both ends and located within the tank, means for guiding the casing in its movement within the tank, a rotatable cam-disk B provided with flanges B, said cam-disk eccentrically mounted within said casing, and said cam-disk so formed as to leave a pocket-like space D between the cam face and the inner wall of the casing, said casing being cut away on one side for the inlet and outlet of the fluid, and a swinging plate E disposed adjacent to the cut away part of the casing and bearing on the cam-disk, said plate E constituting a partition between the inlet and the outlet, as described.
