Be it known that I, Eran. A. STRAUB, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of \Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tweezers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to tweezers for re moving follicles, slivers or other foreign substances from the skin, and more particularly to an arrangement thereof, which makes the implement a pocket tool.

The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of an implement in open or operative position that embodies features of the invention; Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the im plement; Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of the implement in closed position; and Fig. t is a plan view of the instrument when shut.

Referring to the drawings, an outer case or handle is formed of a strip of thin spring sheet metal, bent transversely between its ends into parallel spaced spring arms 1, which are each slightly widened about midway of their ends.

A second strip of sheet spring metal is bent transversely on itself to form spring jaws 2, the metal being rounded at the fold to form a handle portion 3. A rivet pin t compresses and secures the ends of the arms to the jaws 2 near the bend, the arms being separated by an interval for theremainder of their length. The ja are in contact with each other at the pivot pin but are spread beyond that, and can only be folded between the arms by compressing them slightly. They are widenedbetween their ends to correspond to the wider portions of the arms. The handle of the jaws is also Specification of Letters Patent.

thicker than the space between the arms, so as to be retained by friction when the implement is opened. A ring 5 or other suitable member may be added for attaching the instrument to a key-ring or chain.

By this construction a very light article is obtained wnich is readily carried in the pocket, its smooth exterior preventing injur to the pocket or its contents. The projection of the handle beyond the jaws when the instrument is closed, effects convenient means for opening it, there being no need of nail slots as in the blades of pocket knives and the like.

Obviously changes in details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.

What I claim as my invention is An implement for the purposes described comprising a thin, spring sheet metal strip folded transversely into parallel spaced arms, a second spring sheet metal strip folded between its ends into jaws, and a pivot rivet passing through the jaws near the bend and through the arms near their extremities, the rivet holding the superposed strips in contact, and the aws being spread and having central wider portions frictionally engaging similarly widened portions of the arms when folded between them, the bend of the jaws being slightly thicker than the space between the arms to frictionally engage them when the jaws are extended and being adapted to project beyond the arms when the jaws are infolded.
