Be it4 known that I, JULIUs HEILBRON, a at St. Paul, in the county 'of Ramsey and tate of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-lleating Irons;
,and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, .and exact description of the invention, such .as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Mv invention relates to self heating sad irons.
The invention consists in the construe-tion and arrangement of parts, as `will be hereinafter describedand particularly pointed out in the claim.

Referring to the drawings by. -numerals 1' represents a chambered 4basexupon which is mounted a cover 2 provided with a handle f '3 secured to the coverbybsuitable screws or/ 4f()4 otherwise. The cover 2 is provided atl/the front endI with a horizontally extending pin .4 seated in a boss formed integ'i'alwith the cover. The horizontally extending p'n L projects into an opening formed in the ront end of the chambered body 1. near the top thereof' for holding the front end of the cgver infrigid connection with` the cham- T-he rear end of the cover 2 is secured to the chambered body bymeans of a screw passing through the .cover into a boss 5 formed upon the chambered body 1. Positioned iiiv the chambered `body is a valve mechanisi'u for controlling the supply of vfuel to the burner,also-rnounted in the chain-V bejred body. vThe valve consists of a'v hollow tube 6 threaded internall at'the front end to receive avalve plu threaded end of the tu e. The valve plug 7 is provided with a reduced ortion 8 smaller in diameter than-the opening in the threaded end of the tube 6 into which the reduced portion projects vwhen the valve plug is screwed up as shown in Figs, l and 5 ot; the drawing.' The reduced portion 8 of the valve plug 7 is threaded internally for receiving the externally threaded reduced port-ion9 oa valve rod 10. F rom the reduced portion 9 of the valve rod 10 extends amprojection 11 carrying a needle 12. The needle 12 is adapted to clos'e the front end of a conical openingl; formed in the 'valve'plug 7. The projection'll is rovidedwith a conical'va'lve 14 ada te to close the opening 13 at its rear en at the same 'time the needle 12 'closes the opening at its front end. I
The valve plug '7 is provided with an Aannular projectionl extending beyondl the outer face 16 oi the plug a sulcient distance -to protect the point of the neee 12 `when the same is a closing position, as

The valve rod 1() is provided with a hand 'the valve.- l l The reservoir 18 is provided with a filling .plug '.24- which is providedv with .a melting plug Q5 to prevent exploslon of thereservolr ol-A wheel 23 for screwing up and unscrewng carried by the hollow tube to engage the inner surface of the rear upstanding wall of the chambered body 1 to dental displacement of the hol W tube. A burner 28 isJnounted in engagement with a tube 29 having a receiving chamberv 8O for receiving fuel from lthe valve plu;- 7 for transmission to the burner 28 thrug a tube 31 positioned beneath the chamber 30. The tubes 29 and 31 are formed integral and are provided on each side with llangee 32 adapted to lrest upon the top of the 'wall or the chambered body 1. The flanges 32 are convnected in front of the tube 29 with a cross bar 33 having formed in the center thereof an opening 34 in alinement with the charnber and adapted to receive the valve' plug 7 to hold the hollow tube 6 in. engagement with the cross bar. The hollow tube 6 is provided at its front end with a pair of downwardly extending members 35 adapted to engage the burner 28 on each side to hold the same'against lateral movement Within the chambered body 1.

In the operation of my improved device the reservoir, 18 is iilled nearly full of gasolene after which the filler plug 24 is screwed into osition. The cover 2 is taken oft and positioned as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The swab 36 is then saturated in alco hol and lighted and placed in the position shown in Fig. 2 to heat the burner, the hollov-v tube 6 and the reservoir 18. The cover 2 is then properly placed. upon the iron and the valve operated to regulate the amount ol? flame desired for heating the iron.
