Specieation of Letters Patent.
VPatented Nov. 1, 1910.
Appnmm mea rem-ilary 11, 1910. semi No. 543,371. f
To all wlwm 'it my concern:
` lBe it known that I, GUsTAv Vononm, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Wettingen, Villa Eden, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saturated or Superheated Vapor Generators; and I do hereby declare the following-to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which forma specification.
My invention relates to an apparatus for generating saturated vapor or superheated vapor from any desired liquid.
The improved generator has a suitably formed chamber in which fuel and air of combustion are burned, and then brought into direct contact with the liquid to be vaporized, that is to say without the interposal of any partition, so that the vaporous mixture leaving the apparatus is in satur-l ated or superheated condition.
' An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a vert-ical section.
The apparatus shown consists of three superposed tubular sections or pipes A, B, C. The bottom section A has a cup or dished fiange a, upon which the middle section B is set, a narrow gap Z being left between the two sections A, B, while the back of the cup flange c of the section B covers the chamber d presented by the flange a of the section A.
Upon the section B there is superposed the top section C, in such manner that a narrow gap f remains between these two sections, while the straight flange g of the section C covers the chamber l1, presented by the cup flange c.
The two chambers 'd 71. communicate with each other through a passage 2':
Between the sections A' C there might naturally be inserted a number of sections B, instead of only one as shown, in which event there would be a plurality of gaps b f and a plurality of passages z'.
Into the chamber 71. there conducts a water pipe lc lbeing a cock.
The double wall of the section C incloses part of this va vaporizing, chamber m, into which liquid fuel can be fed by a ipe n, while o is a plpe, with cock p, for t e escape ofthe gases generated by heat. The double wall of the section C alsoencompasses an air chamber g to which there conducts a pipes, controlled y a cock r. The interior of the sectionA C communicates with the air chamber g through slots t. YThe pipe 0 conducts to a nozzle u located in the cover D of the section C. l
Iv is an electric ignition device.
The three regulating cocks Z p r are actu ated by means of three levers lw and a common bar w.
The manner of operation of the apparatus is as follows: The liquid fuel enters the chamber m through the pipe n and is there heated and vaporized. The inflammable gas so generated passes to the nozzle u through the pipe o, the flow being regulated by the cock p. On leavin the nozzle u the gas mingles with the air entering through the cock 1- and slotsl t and is ignited by the electrical device fv. The flame and the hot gases travel farther in the direction of the arrow and flow past the gaps f b, whose oflice it is to effect thorough atomization, where they become saturated by the water entering the chambers d It through the cock Z, corresponding to the desired degree of saturation or superheating. The quantity of saturated vapor can be regulated by means of the rod w.
Substantially the same arrangement can also be used for solid, sprayed, or gaseous fuel.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. A saturated or superheated vapor genferator, comprising a vessel having a top double-walled section, presenting between its walls a lower fuel vaporizing chamber communicating with the top`of the section and an upper air chamber also communicating with the interior of the section; and an ignition device mounted on the section; and a bottom section separated from the top section by a narrow interstitial opening and presenting an outer chamber which encompasses the said interstitial opening and is provided with a liquid inlet, said bottom section also presenting a saturated or super` heated vapor outlet; substantially as described. l
2. A saturated or superheated vapor generator, comprising a vessel having a top double-walled section, presenting between its lWalls. a' lower fuel vaporizing chamber communicating with the to of the section and an ripper air chamber a so communicating with the interior of the section; and an ignition device mounted on the section; and a bottom section separated from the top section by a narrow interstitial opening and presenting an outer chamber which encompasses the said interstitial opening and is provided with a liquid inlet, said bottom section also presenting a saturated or superheated vapor outlet; and means for controllin in common the said inlets for fuel, air ang liquid; substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing 20 as myinvention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses. A
GUSTAV VOEGELI.
