FRITZ LIERS, OF RUMIVIELSIBURG, NEAR BERLIN, GERMANY.
LOCK-STRIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 18, 1910.
Application led April 5, 1910. Serial No. 553,654.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ Liens, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Rummelsburg, near Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements' in Lock- Strikes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in lock strikes, and more particularly to that class of lock strikes, in which a rotary boltnab is provided which is rotated by the latch-bolt when closing the door and is thereupon locked against rotation in the opposite direction. And the obj ect of the improvements is to provide a lock strike, in which the bolt-nab will close the door in such a way, that vibrations of the latter are impossible, and which is reliable in operation. For this purpose my improved lock strike is provided with mechanism whereby the bolt-nab is rigidly clamped in locked position as soon as an effort is made to open the door.
F or the purpose of explaining the invention an example embodying the same has been shown in the accompanying drawing in which the same letters of reference have been used in all the views to indicate corresponding parts.
In said drawingMFigure l, is a vertical cross-section of the lock strike, Fig. 2, is a side view of the same seen from the left in Fig. l, Fig. 3, is a horizontal cross-section 0f the box-staple illustrating the clamping lock for the bolt-nab, Fig. 4f, is a horizontal cross-section of the bolt-nab, Fig. 5, is a plan of the bracket for supporting the bolt-nab, and Fig. 6, is a vertical cross-section of the bolt-nab.
To the front plate a of the lock-strike a casing e is secured which provides a suitable support for the boltenab f. At its lower end the latter is guided with a pivot h of its shaft i in a suitable bracket c which is likewise secured to the front plate a. The boltnab is provided with a plurality of fangs which, when closing the door, are caught by the lock-bolt so as to rotate the bolt-nab, and which also provide the locking means for the door, as is known in the art.
I/Vithin the casing e a circular disk c is located which is secured to or made integral with the upper end of the bolt-nab. The said disk is formed with a plurality of notches each of which has a substantially radial face and a face which is at an acute angle to the periphery of the circular disk c. Vithin each of said notches a ball or roller d is inclosed which provides the locking means for the bolt-nab. It will readily be understood, that when turning the bolt-nab in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 3, the said balls will be taken along by the radial faces of the notches. If however the nab is rotated in the opposite direction, the balls will at once be clamped between the inclined side faces of the notches and the inner wall of the casing and will therefore prevent rotation of the bolt-nab.
The inclined faces of the notches are so arranged, that rotation of the bolt-nab is possible when closing the door, and that it is impossible when opening the same. Therefore the door can not be opened except by retractino the lock-bolt by means of a key or the li re. By the construction described the closing operation of the door is easy and reliable, and the door is securely held in its closed position.
I claim herein as my invention:
In a lock-strike the combination with a rotary bolt-nab, of a stationary casing, a notched disk on the bolt-nab inclosed Within said casing, the notches of said disk having a substantially radial side face and a side face which is at an angle to the periphery of the said disk, and balls inclosed in said notches.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRITZ LIERS.
Witnesses HENRY HASPER, WOLDEMAR HAUPT.
