Be it known that LPAULR. Hannan-xxx, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Mount Vernon, New York, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power-Presses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had. therein to the accompanying drawing. 4
My invention relates to improvements in power presses, more particularly of the toggie draw press type and'has special reference to an improved means for holding the work in position while being operated upon.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated in Figure 1 a vertical elevation of a press embodying an application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 looking from left to right. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a slide inember, and Fig. 4 a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 8. Fig. 5 is a diagrammatic illustration of the position of the connecting links or rods when the holding means are elevated, and Fig. 6 is another diagrammatic illustration of the same when' the holding means have descended upon the blank while the same is .being drawn. l l

Upon the side of the frame 9 of the press is provided guide-ways 1() andll in which may be mounted the slide member 12 shown more particularly in Figs. 3 and 4. rl`he crank shaft 7 is also provided with a crank or eccentric 13 upon which is mounted the lever 22, the other end of said "lever being mounted within the slide member 12 as shown, so that when the pitman is nearly at the limit of its stroke, the slide is at the limit of its downward stroke.

This separation of the cranks of the rocker shafts 1-1 and 15 causes said shafts to rotate and depress the connecting links attached to the cross heads Q7. and 2S adjustably secured to the outer slides 23 and Let which firmly holds the blank in position while the draw punch mounted in the plunger operated by the pitman descends and operates upon the work. Upon continuing the rotation of the main shaft 7, the slide member descends allowing the cranks engaging the slots thereof to slide upwardly', within the same, again assuming the position shown in Fig. 5 in which position the work is released and may be shifted. The connecting links 16 and 17 may of course be adjustably connected to the outer slides 23 and 24- as by the screws 25 and QG.

From this arrangement it will be seen that an intermittent motion is provided for the outer slide or holder for the blank and' all the advantages of the toggle press are obtained withoutthe use of the toggle links usually employed. the blank being held securely and not wrinkling during the descent of the punch. v
Various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is:
1. ln a draw press. the combination with the framework of thc main crank shaft car- .rying a pitman and punch, and a rocker shaft carrying connecting links and a blank holder, a slide mcmbcr provided withcurvcd slots, cranks upon said rocker shaft engag` ing said slots and other cranks thereupon being' adapted to operate said blank holder, and nieans'in combination therewith whereby said blank holder binds the blank in ad- Vance of operation upon said blank by said punch.
2. In a draw press. the combination with the framework of the main crank shaft carrying a pitman and punch, and rockcr'slnlfts carrying respectively connecting links, cross heads and a blank holder, a slide member SRO 3.
