DANIEL ROW, OF BROCKVILLE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
HAMMOCK.
Application filed December 8, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
De it known that I, Daninr. Row, a subject of the King of England, residing at Brockville, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hammocks7 of which the following is a specilication.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in hannnocks.
The object of my invention is to provide a hammock, including an oblong tubular frame, the meeting ends of which are shrunk upon a plug7 the frame at the corners being provided. with extending knee blocks to provide a hammock frame the corners of which will be square.
lith the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification7 and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure l shows a top view of the frame. Fig. 2 shows an enlarged fragmentary view of one corner of the frame. Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the finished hammock. Fig. t shows a section on line 4 4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a section on line 5 5 of Fig. s.
In the drawings I have shown an oblong frame made of a single length of pipe, bent to form the two parallel side sections 5, and the two end sections 6. The ends of the pipe are shrunk upon a metal plug 8 shown in F ig. 2.
The rounded continuous smooth corners 9 of the frame are each provided with a knee block preferably made of metal and approximately representing a triangle to present the two flat edges 10 which at their meeting points are slightly rounded as shown at 12. Each knee block is provided with a flange portion 14 arranged to lie over the pipe so that the upper and lower faces l5 of the knee blocks form tangential surfaces to the pipe as shown in Fig. 4, the

outer ends of said flanges terminating at the ends of the block, whereby a curved recess is formed for snugly receiving the rounded corners of the frame. These knee blocks are secured by means of the screws 16 which enter the pipe at the corner in the manner shown in Fig. 2. This construction then provides a tubular frame the corners of which present two flatsurfaces held at right angles to one another as well as a flat upper and lower corner surface.
The hammock fabric is of a length considerably longer than the hammock frame, and comprises the central section 2O which is in the form of a bag as shown in Fig. 5 within which the supporting frame is held. The ends 21 each carry a bar 22 below which are situated a plurality of gromets through which the supporting ropes are carried as indicated in Fig. 8. By means of the knee blocks, the end sections 2l form a neat, square corner in connection with the main section 20. The fabric forming portion of the hammock is tightly sewn to the frame.
The hammockconstructed according to my invention is both durable and efficient and presents a neat and sightly appearance.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
In combination with a rectangulaiframe made of a single piece and having rounded smooth continuous corners, of a triangular shaped knee block of a rectangular shape having two Hat outer edges and rounded at their contiguous edges, the upper and lower surfaces being flat to form tangential surfaces with the frame, flanged portions formed by said upper and lower flat surfaces and terminating at the ends of the fiat outer edges of said block forming a curved recess conforming to the rounded corner of the frame for snugly receiving the same, and screws passed through said flat outer edges of the knee block and into the frame about the rounded corner thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL ROV.
Vitnesses GEORGE ARTHUR MoGonKiN, EinnnN CosKnnAN.
