Description

C. B. MANN. ROTARY SNOW PLOW. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 29, 1909.
Patented Sept 27, 1910.
FICML FIG. 4:.
FIG.3..
WITNESSES f W CHARLES B. MANN, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
ROTARY SNOW-PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 27, 19140.
Application filed November 29, 1909. Serial No. 530,459.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. MANN, citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Snow- Plows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a rotary snowl plow and has for its object the provision of improved means for removing snow from railroad tracks.
Other advantages of this device will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of m invention, Figure 1 is a horizontal longitu inal section of the device, Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cutting-fan and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the delivery pipe.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the shell or casing which is of V-shaped form at the forward end and is tapered at the rear to form a delivery pipe. This casing is provided with approximately semi-circular openings 2, which are designed to admit snow to the interior of the casing. The casing is braced and strengthened by horizontal partitions 3, and also by a ver tical brace l.
6 is the main driving shaft.
7 represents bearings for shafts connecting gear wheels 9, which by means of gears 8, l7 and 18, and auxiliary shafts 5 and 11, drive cutting fans 10. The bearings 12 are forn'ier'l in partitions 3.
13 is a delivery pipe formed for delivering the snow as far as possible from the railroad tracks and which by means of gears 14 and 16, and hand wheel 15, will deliver the snow in any desired direction.
The advantages of this device consist in presenting snow cutting and driving mechanism to the snow, at an oblique angle, and also in having the same consist of a large number of fans, evenly distributed over the face of the casing. It is also an advantage to deliver the snow in any desired direction at the will of the operator.
The cutting fans have two large blades, extra heavy where joined to the shaft, which slice the snow and force it into the casing and thence out through the discharge pipe.
It will be seen that simple and efficient means are herein provided for carrying out the objects of the invention, but it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction as herein set forth, but includes within its purview such changes as may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A rotary snow plow, comprising a V-shaped casing, in combination with a driving shaft, a plurality of snow cutting fans, arranged in tiers at the V-shaped end of the casing, gears and auxiliary driving shafts having suitably braced bearings, and an adjustable delivery pipe, substantially as shown.
2. A rotary snow plow, comprising a casing V-shaped at one end and tapered at the other, in combination with a driving shaft, a plurality of snow cutting fans, auxiliary shafts and gears for driving the fans, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES E. MANN.
