To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GASTON A. BRONDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Turn-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in turntables. Its main object is the production of a turntable which rotates on a center pin protected from dust, truck wheels journaled on journal pins protected from dust, brushes connected with the table to clean the track on which the truck wheels run, means to simultaneously lubricate all the bearings of the turntable, and means to support the table on the center pin, and a pair of legs to hold it in place.

The turntable s characterized by the general feature of being supported on a center pin 30, which is fastened to an upper center bearing bracket 31, having the barrel 32. The bracket 31 extends from and is secured to the beams 33, that constitute the central cross beams of the framing of the turntable. The beams 33 extend between and are connected to the longitudinal beams 34, which latter have also connected up with them on each side of the center pin 3() the end channels 35, 36. Over the central cross beams 33, and channels 35, 36 is fastened the longitudinal angle iron 37. From the longitudinal beams 34 extend the angle irons 3S to which are fastened the outer angles 39. Tracks 40 are secured to the beams 34 for the car or other vehicle, not shown, to be carried on the turntable. Flooring 41 covers the framing of the turntable.
The center pin 30 is supported on a bearing disk 42, that is supported in the lower center' bearing bracket 43, which latter is carried on the cross-beams 44 of the supporting frame 47 for the turntable. The bearin bracket 43 has the barrel 46 and is threaded for a bolt 45 which can be made to bear up against the disk 42. The frame 47 carries the circular' track 48 for the wheels of the turntable to be described.
The center pin 30 has the vertical conduit 49 which connects with the horizontal cross conduit 50 for the oil pipe 76 to be described. It has the iiange 51 which bears up against the upper center bearing bracket 31. The end face of the pin 30 is spherical as shown at 52, which bears on a similar shaped co-ncaved surface 53 in the bearing disk 42.
To the lower faces of the channels 35, 36 are fastened the journal boxes 54, having the upper flanges 55 which latter have the openings 56, for the wheels 57. The said wheels are supported on journal pins 5S that are held in place and prevented from turning by means of lugs 59 that engage a VHattened portion 60 of each head 61 of each pin 58. The journal boxes have extending from their accompanying inner sides the shoulders 62, and circular' dust protecting rings 63, bear on the said shoulders and the hubs 64 of the wheels 57. Roller bearings 65 are preferably carried in the hubs 64 that ride on the journal pins 58. From the journal boxes 54 extend the lugs 66, 67 between which are fastened by mea-ns of the screws 63 brushes to be described.
To the longitudinal. angle iron 37 is secured a multiple oil reservoir 69, which is composed of the chambers 70, 71, 72, 73, 74 with the cover 75. The chamber 72 has extendingl therefrom piping 76, that connects with the vertical channel 49 in the pin 30, which vertical channel connects with the horizontal cross channel 50 for lubricating the bearing surface of said pin and its bearing disk 42. Between the faces of the barrels of the brackets 31 and 43 is located a dust protecting ring,l 79 of pliable material. F rom the other chambers in the multiple oil reservoirs lead the oil pipes 80, 81, 82, 83 which connect with the longitudinal channels 84 in each journal pin 58, the channels 84 each connecting with a cross-channel 85 to lubricate the pins 58.
To the longitudinal beams 34 and adjacent to the wheels 57 are fastened the brushholders 86. The holders have formed therewith the lugs 87, 88 between which are held the brushes 89, by means of the screws 90. On the other side of each wheel 57 there is secured a brush 91 between the lugs 66 and G7 extending` to journal boxes 54. The said brushes bear on the circular tracks 48.
rlhrough the beams 84 is journaled the shaft 95, which has secured thereto at each end the lug 96 with the U shaped ears 97. In the said ears are fulcrumed the pins 98, that carry t-he adjustable legs 99, each of which latter have the side shoulders 100 and end shoulders 101. A guide 102 is secured at the lower end of the beam 34 for each leg 99.
On the shaft 95 and adjacent to the lugs 9G is fastened a turning socket 105, which has the openings 10G for the insertion of a turning bar, not shown.
On the flooring 41 of the turntable are secured the latch brackets 110, 111 for the latch pin 112, which can engage with a similar latch bracket 113 secured adjacent to the turntable.
To use the turntable, that is to say, to rotate it on its center pin 30, the turning socket 105 is turned so as to disengage the shoulders 100, 101, of the adjustable legs 99 from the U shaped ears 97, which will carry the said legs 99 up from the circular track 48, and the table will be supported on its center pin 30, the wheels 57 when the turntable is perfectly horizontal being somewhat above the track 48. Should the table be somewhat unevenly loaded a portion of the load will be carried by a pair of the truck wheels 57. During the rotation of the turntable each of the journal pins 58 will be oiled by oil being carried from the multiple oil reservoir 69 through its oil pipe, and the center pin 8O will also be oiled in the same manner. Should it be desired to hold the table locked opposite the tracks with which it is employed, the latch pin 112 is moved to engage the bracket 113, and the legs 99 are made to bear on the circular track 48, by which disposition of parts the turntable will be held on the center pin, the said legs 99 and a pair of the wheels, avoiding any jar when a car or vehicle is running over the table.
The dust protecting rings 63 are made of pliable material as well as the dust protecting ring 79.
The brushes 89 and 91 being located on opposite sides of the axis of each of the wheels 57 and adjacent to the tires thereof, the track is cleaned of any obstructions irrespective of the direction of the rotation of the turntable.
Having described my invention I claim:
1. In a turntable the combination of a center bearing bracket, a center pin extending from the bracket, a lowerl center bearing bracket below the said pin, a bearing disk in the latter bracket for the end of the pin to bear against, a longitudinal channel in the pin, with a cross channel extending therefrom to lubricate the pin and the bearing disk.
2. In a turntable the combination of framing therefor, an oil reservoir connected to said framing, a center bearing bracket extending from the framing, a center pin supported in the bearing, a certain bearing bracket below the center pin, a bearing disk in the latter bracket, a dust ring between the bearing bracket surrounding the center pin, a vertical channel in the center pin, a cross channel in the said pin connecting with the vertical channel, and piping extending from the oil reservoir to the said vertical channel.
3. The combination of a turntable, a frame therefor, a center pin connected with said frame, a supporting frame below the turntable, a center bearing bracket on t-he latter frame for the center pin, wheels journaled in the turntable, journal pins for each wheel, a track on the supporting frame for said wheels, a cleaning brush secured to the turntable for each wheel thereof, an oil reservoir connected to the turntable, and piping leading from the reservoir to each journal pin to lubricate the latter.
4. The combination of a turntable, a center bearing pin therefor, a center bearing bracket below the said pin to support the same, wheels journaled with the turntable, journal boxes on the turntable, journal pins supported in the said boxes for the wheels, dust rings joining the hubs of the wheels and the said journal boxes.
5. The combination of a turntable, a center bearing pin therefor, a bracket below the said pin to support the same, wheels journaled with the turntable, a journal box connected to the table for each wheel, a journal pin supported in each box, a lug extending from each box bearing on a fiattened portion of the pin to prevent the latter turning, hubs for each wheel, shoulders in the journal boxes opposite said hubs, dust rings of pliable material on the said hubs and bearing on the shoulders of the ournal boxes.
6. The combination of a turntable, a center bearing pin therefor, a center bearing bracket below said pin, Wheels journaled with the turntable, a circular track for said Wheels, a shaft journaled in the turntable, lugs with ears fastened to the shaft, legs having shoulders pinned to the lugs, means to engage said shoulders with the ears of said lugs.
7. The combination of a turntable, a center pin having a spherical end extending therefrom, a bearing disk with a spherical concaved surface for the end of said pin, a dust ring of pliable material on said pin, journal pins secured With said turntable, Wheels journaled on said journal pins, dust rings of pliable material for said journal pins, an oil reservoir on the turntable, piping leading from the reservoir to the bearing surfaces of the center pin and each of the journal pins, and adjustable legs connected with the turntable to support the turntable on said legs and center pin, and the pair of Wheels opposite the legs.
