My improved picker-stick described hercin is more effectively controlled in its action above referred to .by means of the member 18 between the ears 17, underlying the strap 20 and before referred to` When the pickersticl: moves forward the member l1S is thrown backward, away from the strap 2()l but when the picker-stick, in its return movement, approaches the end of the lay thc member 18 moving forward contacts with the strap 2O at its under face, and. as the movement of the picker-stick continuesl this member 18 presses with increasing,r force against. said strap. `The pull of the roll 22 upon the strap 20, as it rcturnsthe piekerstiek, also tendsv to straighten said strap between the point. where it leaves the sur- -face of the roll 22 and the corresponding point upon the inclined surface 21 of the member 2 of the picker-stick, and when the return movement of the picker-stick has brought the. member 18 in contact with the under side of the strap 20 the pressure of said member 18 against the under side of the strap tends tor offset any'tendencyv ofthe ,i roll to return the picker-stick initially beyond the position of rest of,tl 1e pieltcr-slick and` consequent-ly tends to bring the pickersticltto a position of rest. at'such time the 70 lateral pressure of the strap 20 is equal upon the face 21 of the member :2 and cross-member 1S, which is the normal position at rest. of the picker-stick.

In order to prevent the picker-stick from jumping out of the `shoe 6, which it will often do if the pull of the tension roll 22 upon the heel Strap if() is not strong enough tolteep the pickensiiclt in. position and unlesslhe pickersticlt is provided with means to keep 1t from jumping, ithas often been necessary to increase theupull'of the tension roll upon the heel stra p 20 beyond what` was necessary to simply return the picket* force against the end of thelay and to overcome the .consequent pir to the looni and to savonear and loosening of the picker `1t has stick to tbe end of the lay. ` lly tbeuse ot' my improved form of piekerstickY it is possible t'o so accurately adjust 163 the movement of the pickenstiek and the action of the roll 22 thereupon that th'e pickcivsticlt will be properly returned to theend of the lay withoutundue force and the danger of its jumping 'from its seat. This 105- cushionedstopping of the picker-stick above described reduces the inclination of the shut tlc to rebound from the picker-stick, which rebound .causes breaking of the filling and ltinking thereof and prevents the pickerl stick in its next oscillation from imparting to the shuttle its proper forward movement. The vabove adjustments accordingly eileet an adjustment o`f the tension upon the heel strap to regulate the movementofV the picker-stick under varying conditions and permit. the movement referred to to be controlled at all times. l have ascertained that proper adjustment of tho pickel-stick respecting the tension foil will remove the U0V danger of damage arising from'the improper Contact of the Shuttle with the pickerstiel( and insures proper movement of the'-y shuttle.' The use of my picker-stick also obviates the necessity for using the pad or bunt now so commonly used to stop the movement of the picker-stick in the lay; removes all danger of the heel strap running off the hecl'of the piekerstiek; the danger of the break-out from breaking of the heel strap is lessened and jumping of the piekerstick is obviateil.
