MAX RGSCHMANN, 0F FLENSBURG, GERMANY.
HORSESHOE WITH EXCHANGEABLE CALK.
Application filed January 16, 1909, Serial No. 472,733.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 20, 1910.
Renewed August 5, 1910. Serial No. 575,797.
subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Flenslourg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes with Exchangeable Calks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
The calks secured in a horse-shoe by a pin or tenon have shown the difficulty that after the wearing out of the calks, the tenon can be withdrawn from the opening only with great difliculty. I
The present invention has for its object to avoid this inconvenience and to this end the notch in the tenon is made deep enough so that after the wear and tear of the calk, a wedge can be driven easily between it and the calk of the shoe.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the part of the shoe to be armed with a calk. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 shows a calk in side elevation, and Fig. 4: in plan view. Fig. 5 shows in elevation the shoe and calk combined, and Fig. 6 is a cross-section through the combined parts.
The shoe h reinforced for the reception of the calk as at a is provided with the oblong opening a for the tenon of the calk and crosswise to the opening or slot with a notch b. The tenon d of the calk is divided by a deep notch extending almost down to the body 9 of the calk but leaving still a small web 2' as shown in Fig. 3. By securing the calk to the shoe in driving the tenon d into the slot 0 the face of this web i is somewhat below the bottom of the notch b in the shoe, so that it is easy to drive in a wedge or other suitable tool and separate the parts at any time.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A horse shoe provided with a reinforce, said reinforced portion being rovided with an oblong opening parallel siged, and with a notch at right angles thereto, and a calk having a tenon provided by a deep notch extending nearly to the body of the calk, leaving a small web, said web being parallel sided to fit the opening of the reinforce, the tenon engaging said slot with the said web below the bottom of the notch in the reinforce providing an opening for the introduction of a separating tool.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MAX RGSGHMANN.
