Description

Letters Patent No. 96,859, datedNovember 16, 1869.
IMPROVENIENT IN TENUE.
, The Schedule referred to indchese Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To' whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN A. WOOD, of Cardington, in the county of Morrow, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wood and fire-Fences; and I do declare that the following is Va true `and accurate description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
Figure I is an eleva-tion of a section of fence.
Figure 2, an elevation of a single picket.
Figure 3, a series of wire locks. v
Like letters indicate like parts in each figure.
The uatureof this invention relates to an improvement in the `manner of constructing fences ot' wood and wire combined; and consists in a new and novel combination of hooks or links, by means of Whichthe pickets are held in position, and in providing one or bot-h edges of thel pickets with notches, which engage with the links or hooks, thereby making` a strong,- and durable fence. Y
In the drawings- A represents the comer-posts, and' B the pickets f the fence. Y
The outer pickets may be secured to the cornerposts by being nailed or screwed to the post,'as at a, or by means of staples b, driven into the post over 4the links or hooks, or in any other convenient and desirable way.
the end of each link is bent at right angles with its length, and hooks around the adjacent link, so as to leave square or rectangular openings c, within which are inserted, near the top andlbottcm, the pickets B, which are provided in one or both edges, as may be desired, \vith the notches (I, which engage with the links when the latter are drawn tight, the whole forming,r a cheap, durable, and elegant fence.
Should greater lstreingth be required, another series of links may he similarly employed, the, same engaging with notches in the pickets, at about thecentre of' their length.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The wire links or hooks O, in fences constructed substantially as herein -set forth.
Also, the picket B, provided `with notches d, in combination with thewire links or hooks O, when constructed and operating substantially as herein described.
