To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT STIGLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gillespieville, in the county of Ross and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Flower-Stand, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to stands for growing plants, flowers or the like, and relates more particularly to a device of this kind having a body formed from an originally plastic material adapted to harden, such as plaster or concrete, the body comprising a base, a standard, and a bowl, and having a reinforcing member embedded in the standard, and further, a reinforcing basket embedded in the bowl and associated with the member.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong and durable stand in which flowers or the like, growing in earth, can be held, which can be used upon lawns, in ar bors, and in other suitable places, which is ornamental and attractive in appearance, and which is so constructed that the roots of flowers growing therein can be ventilated, and the earth thoroughly drained.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims;

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speci fication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 22 of F 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view showing part of the material forming the body broken away; and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of part of the reinforcing structure.

Before proceeding to a more detailed ex planation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that the same can be fashioned from any suitable material which is originally plastic and is adapted to harden, for example, such as concrete, cement, plaster, mortar or the like. The de vice may be ornamented in any suitable manner, for instance as shown in the accompanying drawings, by partly embedding in the surface colored pebbles or the like. Needless to say, this and other details of construction can be varied in accordance with individual preference and special conditions, without departing from the underlying spirit of the invention. Vhile the device may be molded, I prefer to have it built up, the plastic material being applied about the reinforcing structure in any suitable manner.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the body of the device comprises a laterally extended base 10 of substantially circular form, and centrally cut away underneath to decrease the weight and the amount of material necessary. Extending upwardly from the center of the base is the standard 11, integral therewith and carrying the bowl 12. The latter is semi-spherical or of any other suitable form and has a rounded rim or lip 13. The interior of the bowl may be smooth, and the outer surface of the entire body, as shown for example herewith, may be ornamented by means of colored pebbles 14 or the like partly embedded in the material while the latter is still plastic.

Extending longitudinally of the standard and embedded therein is a hollow, elongated member 15 consisting for example of a section of pipe, and having the open ends projecting respectively within the bowl at the bottom thereof and under the base at the cutaway part. The reinforcing member 15 it will be seen, thus constitutes a drain for the bowl, and at the same time serves to ventilate the roots of plants growing in earth located within the bowl.

A reinforcing basket 16 corresponding in form to that of the bowl, is embedded in the material of the latter and has a ring 17 at the rim thereof, and at the bottom, near the center a second ring 18. The rings are preferably fashioned from suitable metal, and the basket is formed from wire gauze of any mesh adapted for the purpose, and depending upon the size of the stand. The ring 18 fits upon the upper end of the reinforcing member 15, which has transverse pins or studs 19 engaging the ring and tending to hold the basket and the member associated. At the lower projecting end, the member has a transverse pin or bolt 20 which assists in holding it in position.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A device of the class described, having a body formed from an originally plast1c material adapted to harden. and comprising a base, a standard, and a bowl, said body having a pipe embedded therein having the ends projecting respectively into said bowl and through said base, said body further, having a reinforcing basket embedded within said bowl, said basket including a reinforcing ring at the rim of said bowl, and a ring encompassing said pipe.

2. A device of the class described, having a body formed from an originally plastic material adapted to harden, and comprising a base, a bowl, and a standard connecting said base and said bowl, said body having an elongated, hollow reinforcing member embedded in said standard and having onen ends projecting into said body and through said base, said base having a recess adapted to receive a projecting end of said member,

said bowl having a reinforcing, reticulate basket embedded therein and provided with 20 a central rlng receiving an end of said memher, said member having a transverse pin engaging said ring to hold said basket and said member together, said member further, at the lower projecting end thereof having a transverse pin engaging at said base, said basket having a ring at the upper rim thereof.
