Description
Patented A1152, 1910.
[NVENTUR &
' WITNE CLAYTON M. COLTON, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DISPLAY-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2, 1910.
Application filed November 26, 1909. 1 Serial No. 529,997.
To (all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAYTON M. CoLToN,
citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Forms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to advertising devices and consists of certain new and useful improvements in the same, whereby forms for the display of textiles or knitted or woven fabrics, are constructed of translu cent material and are provided with illuminating means, whereby when anarticle is placed upon the form, the light shines through the form and the material of which the article is made, thereby displaying the texture and weave of the goods displayed and also any advertising matter appearing thereon or on the form itself.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood, I have illustrated in the accompanying drawing, preferred forms of the same as applied to hosiery and in which,
Figure 1 represents a stocking stretched upon one of my improved foot and leg forms, provided with an interior light. Fig. 2 is a similar View of a form for half hose, showing a reflector behind the lighting device, and Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the top of the form, showing a method of adjusting the reflector.
Similar letters of reference indicate identical parts throughout.
A represents a hollow form as applied to hosiery, and in this instance is made in the shapeof a human leg and foot and consists of glass, celluloid'or any other translucent material.
The form is so constructed as to readily receive a standard B to which are secured electric burners O at intervals, provided with suitable electrical connections and wiring D. While I have shown the standard as being provided with a number of lighting devices, it is obvious that a single light,
or one or two lights may be employed to dis- .play such parts of an article as theuser may desire.
In practice the stocking is placed upon the form as shown in Fig. 1, and the lights turned on, when the form and stocking will be illuminated, the light showing through the form and the stocking.
It is obvious that other means of illumination may be employed, and also that the forms when made of glass may be frosted, sanded or colored. It is also clear that ad-- vertising matter may be placed upon the stocking or upon the form, and this will be clearly brought outby the light shining from within, as will appear by the dotted lines at X in Fig. 1. It is also obvious that different colored letters may be used in ad vertising, which the light will make effect,-
ive.
In Fig. 2 I have shown a form A applied to half hose. In this form of my invention I have shown a single light provided with a reflector F. The burner and reflector are preferably secured to the underside of a part G adapted to fit within or upon the top of the form and which is provided with means for furnishing the light required. The reflector is adjustably supported, as shown, and is formed so as to partially surround the globe of the burner, and can be moved so as to reflect the rays of light in any desired direction.
It is apparent that while I have shown and described my invention as a foot and leg form for the display of hosiery, the form may be made in the shape of. any other portion of the body, for the reception and display of wearing apparel suitable for said art.
p What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2- A hollow translucent display form to receive a translucent article of wearing apparel, said display form being in the configuration of a part of the human body and adapted to fit the interior of the said article of wearing apparel, a lighting means located within said displayform, a reflector within said form between said lighting means and one wall of the form itself and securing means for said reflector, providing for the adjustment of the same to different positions, around said lighting means, whereby the light from the same may be thrown through any desired part of the form and article thereon.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
CLAYTON M. COLTON.
