To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. SANNER, a citizen of the United States of America, residin in Quincy, in the county of Adams and tate of Illin'ois,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hinges for Molding-Flasks, of which the following is a.full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a hinge for mold ing flasks being more particularly intended to be employed in flasks in which match plates are utilized, and the invention has for its object the production of such a hinge having features therein whereby the hinge is prevented from either forward or backward movement, or sidewise movement, any of which would be detrimental to a mold producing flask.
Figure I is a side elevation of fragments of a drag and cope of a molding flask with a match plate between them and one of my hinges. Fig. II is a view similar to Fig. I, with the match plate removed. Fig. III is a top or plan view of one of the rear corners of the flask and one of my hinges. Fig. IV is a perspective view of one of the hinge sections used upon the cope of the flask. Fig. V is a perspective view ofone of the hinge sections used on the drag of the flask.

C is a match plate occupying a position between the drag and cope, (see Fig. I,) and which is intended to be employed in the usual manner.
1 designates a hinge section suitably secured to one of the rear corners of the drag A and which is provided with a rearwardly and upwardly extending socket arm 2 adapted to receive another member to be presently mentioned.
t designates a second hinge section that is suitably secured to one of the rear corners of the cope B so that it will occupy a posi tion immediately above the hinge section 1 when the cope is in position above the drag. This second hinge section is provided with a rearwardly extending rounded grooved head 5, and which seats in the socket arm 2 of the hinge section 1 when the cope is in position on the drag. The parts thus far described are known to be old and no invention per se is herein claimed for them.
At the outer side of the side member of the hinge section 1 is an upwardly extending lug 3 that is so located as to permit the descent of the side member of the upper hinge section 4 to the hinge section 1, and at the outer side of the side member of the upper hinge section 4. is a lug 6. The two lugs 3 and 6 are so offset from each other as to permit of the upper hinge section 4 being lowered into a position parallel with the lower hinge section 1, and to provide for the engagement of these lugs as seen in Figs. I to III, inclusive, when the cope is in position above the drag, the lug 6 being at such time located immediately back of the lug 3.
It will be apparent that due to the lug 6 riding into engagement with the vertical face of lug 3 and at the rear of said lug 3, the lug 3 is rendered serviceable to prevent forward movement of the lug 6 and, as a consequence, the cope of the flask is prevented from moving in a forward direction. Further, that the lug 3, by bearing against the lug 6, acts to hold the head 5 of the hinge section 4 firmly against the upright vertical portion of the socket arm 2 of the lower hinge section so that the socket arm will prevent rearward movement of the cope above the drag; and, furthermore, that due to the last mentioned action, and as a result of the lug 3 overlapping the hinge section 4, there is prevention of sidewise or lateral movement of the cope above the drag.
While I have described only one of my hinges, it is obvious that a second and similar hinge is utilized in a flask to which my improvement is applied, and that this second hinge is placed opposite the one shown and described.
I claim:
In a hinge of the character described, a hinge section having a rearwardly extending vertical socket arm and provided at its outer side with a lug having a vertical face, an upper hinge section having a rearwardly extending grooved head engaging a vertical face of said socket arm to prevent lateral movement of the hinge sections relative to each other, the said upper section being provided at its outer side with a lug adapted to engage the Vertical face of the lug 0n the In testimony whereof, I have hereunto lower section when the two hinge sectlons aflixed my signature, this 31st day of J anuare parallel wlth each other, the grooved ary, 1910.

Correction in It is hereby certified that Letters PatentNo. 965,752, granted July 26, 1910, upon the application of Henry H. Sanner, of Quincy, Illinois, for an improvement in Hinges for Molding-Flasks, were erroneously issued to Excelsior Stove & Manufacturing Company, as assignee of the entire interest in said invention, whereas said Letters Patent should have been issued to the inventor, said Scmner and Excelsior Stove d? Manufiwtwing Oompam jointly, said company being owner of (me-hag) interest only, as shown by the record of assignments in this oflice; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Oflice.
