To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, Louis Gnammn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suit-Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg.

This invention relates to extensible brackets for hanging wearing apparel in wardrobes, closets and the like, and the principal object of the same is to provide a bracket of the character specified with a plurality of telescopically arranged sliding sections which coperate to form a strong and serviceable bracket from which goods may be suspended so that they may be readily drawn out for display or selection, and also retracted within a wardrobe, closet or the like and to be protected from dust and other damaging matter.

The invention is particularly valuable for use in connection with clothing establishments where it is necessary to frequently display the goods as the same provides means whereby the goods are suspended in position to properly display their form.

In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will, of course, be readily understood that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the improved display rack, shown extended. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view, the rack shown contracted. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.

Referring to said drawings by numerals 1 designates the vertical inner wall and 2 the similar outerwall of a closet or the like. A horizontal flat arm 3 has its upturned flanged inner end -1 fastened to inner wall 1, its outer end projecting below the lower end of said outer wall 2. The lower face of said arm 3 is provided with a centrally located, longitudinally extending rib 5. A troughshaped hanger arm 6 has its downturned langed inner end 7 fastened to the wall 1, said hanger arm being below and parallel with the arm 3 and has its outer end 8 in the form of a hook which engages over the outer end of the arm 3, and said hook-shaped end of the arm 7 and the outer end of the arm 3 are suitably fastened to t-he lower end of the wall 2. A truss bar 9 is carried by the upper surface of the arm 3 for strengthening purposes, as will be readily understood.

A hanger frame 10 has the outer portion of its top surface open, as indicated at 1l and the inner portion of its bottom surface open, as indicated at 12. Said frame 10 carries upstanding arms 13 at its inner end which project on opposite sides of the hori- Zontal arm 6, said arms 13 being connected by a shaft 14C which projects between the arms 6 and 3 `and carries a grooved roller 15 which runs in the trough-shaped arm 6 and also engages the pendent rib 5 of the arm 3. A pair of arms 16 are carried by the intermediate portion of the frame 10, said arms 16 being similar to the arms 13 and have a roller 17 mounted on a shaft 1S, said roller 17 running in the trough-shaped arm 6 and engaging the rib 5 of the arm 3. By this arrangement of arms and rollers, the frame 10 is supported at two points by the troughshaped arm 6, and the rollers reduce the friction incidental to longitudinal movement of the frame 10 relative to the arm 6. The hanger frame 10 is open at its outer end to permit longitudinal movement therethrough of a flat upper bar 19 of a rectangular clothes supporting frame. Said bar 19 has two rollers 21 at its inner end which are of a size to permit them to travel through the frame 10 while contacting with the top and bottom thereof. The outer end of said bar 19 travels over a. roller 22 mounted in the outer end of the bottom of said frame 10. The outer end of the bar 19 projects slightly beyond the outer open end of the frame 10 and carries a flat bar 23 the intermediate portion of which is provided with a laterally arranged inwardly projecting lug 24.-, and whose lower portion forms a handle 25 by means of which the sections of the rack may be manipulated. A pendent bar 26 projects from the inner end of the bar 19 and has a rod connection 27 at its lower end with one end of a tubular clothes supporting bar 28, the other end of said tubular bar being engaged by the lug 24 of the handle bar 23.

It will be seen from the foregoing that the improved rack provides three sections, the upper section being a stationary one and comprising the arms 3 and 6; the intermediate section being a movable one and composed of the frame 10 which has the hanger arm connection with said arms 3 and 6, said frame being limited in its outward movement by contact of its intermediate shaft 18 with the hook-shaped end 8 of the arm 6; and the clothes supporting frame which has its upper bar slidable in said frame 10, the outward movement of said clothes supporting frame being limited by contact of the bar 2G with the inner rod of the opening 12 in the bottom of the frame 10, and limited in its inward movement by contact of the handle bar 23 with the outer end of frame 10.

In operation, assuming the parts to be in the position shown in Fig. 1, it will be seen that a pull imparted to the handle bar 23, will slide the clothes supporting frame relative to the frame 10, until the said clothes supporting frame reaches the limit of its outward movement relative to said frame l0, whereupon said frame 10 will be caused to travel outward until the limit of its outward movement has been reached by contact of its shaft 18 with the end 8 of the arm 6, in which position the garments supported upon the bar 29 may be readily inspected. A reversal of the operation will retract the section of the rack so that the same will be entirely within the closet.

Vhat I claim as my invention is A device of the character described comprising a horizontally arranged stationary arm having a pendent longitudinal rib, a trough-shaped arm below and parallel with said stationary arm, antifriction rollers carried by said troughshaped arm and engaging said rib, hanger arms carried by said rollers, a frame suspended by said arms, and a clothes supporting frame suspended from and movable relative to said suspended frame.
