Description

intrd gittata:
@aan einem WILLIAM BYOYRER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 96,543, dated November 9, 1869.
ORGAN-STOP HANDLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making par: of the same.
the art to make and use the same, reference being had to.th eaccompanying. drawings, forming part of this speciiication. I l
Figure 1 represents a plan or top view of my improved organ-stop handle.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. l
This invention has for its object to so construct the handles of organ-stops, that the notices painted or printed upon the same can be readily seen by the organist.
Heretofore such notices, indicating the effect produced by the pulling of each stop, have been applied to the ends of the handles, such endsbeiu g generally fiattened, and parallel with the face of the organ. The organist, being at'some distance from the stops, could not conveniently read such notices, as they were not held at a proper angle to the eye, and the organist had, therefore, to bend to the side before pulling each stop.
The playing of organs was thereby made inconvenient.
My invention consists in providing the handles with oblique surfaces, on which the notices are' displayed, so that the organist can read them without moving the body.
A, in the drawing, represents an organ-stop handle of suitable size ,and shape, It has an oblique face, a,
formed on it, so that any notice painted or printed upon it can, at a glance, be read by the organist, the oblique surface being as near as possible parallel with the eyes of the player.
The angle may be varied in accordance with the distance of each stop from the key-board.
AThe invention is equally applicable to similar stops on other musical instruments, such as melodeons, 85e.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 'An organ-stop handle, provided with an oblique surface, for displaying the notice applied to the saine, as
set forth.
