MAILING PACKAGE AND WRAPPER.

Be it known that I, HORAOE L. DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at 101 West Eighty-fourth street, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mailing Packages and Wrappers, of which the following is a specification.
My inventlon relates to that class of packages which are adapted to the sending of samples or other articles through the mails and has for its object the making of a convenient retaining package and combining therewith a wrapper by means of which the inclosed article may be conveniently scaled up and transmitted in the usual course.
To this end the invention consists in a package formed flat with depressions or recesses suited to the article to be transmitted and to which is attached end and side flaps for the purpose of completely inclosing the same.
In the drawings Figure l is a plan or face view of the package and flaps showing three recesses in the package adapted to receiving samples of chocolate, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line X X of Fig. 1.
In these drawings A represents a large flap provided with a supplementary fiap F, and wafer seals a, a, a, which serve to secure the end flaps B and O and also a smaller side flap D. The usual course of folding the flaps is to first loosen the end flaps B and C and then the side flap D after which the flap A and supplementary flap F is turned over, so that a complete wrapper is formed and it is readily secured by the seals 0;, a, a, or in any other desired manner.

The package G has depressions or recesses H and may also have retaining flaps b which are normally fiat and simply require raising at the time of inclosing the article to be transmitted. This package is preferably formed of cellular board through which the recesses H are cut and then backed or wrapped with paper on which the flaps b b are formed, it being understood that when this wrapper is pasted or secured to the package the openings become pockets or recesses for securing the intended article. This package complete in itself is attached to the outer wrapper on which the flaps A, B, C and D are formed and the result is a combined mailing package and wrapper the use of which will be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A combined mailing package and wrapper comprising a package having recesses cut therein adapted to receive the articles to be transmitted, said package being of the same thickness as the articles to be transmitted, flaps on the package for each recess, and a wrapper having end flaps and side flaps entirely inclosing the package and the flaps thereon.
