WINDOW-'BOX SUPPORT.

Be it known that I, JENNIE S. NEWGARDEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved l/Vindow-Box Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to window box supports, my more particular purpose being to provide a form of bracket for holding the window box securely in position upon a window-sill so as to allow the box to extend outwardly from said sill, and yet to support the box securely while maintaining it accessible at all times from the inside of the window.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming va part of this speciiication, in which similar characters of reference indicate correspondingparts in both the figures.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective, showing the window box and also showing a pair of brackets for supporting the latter; and Fig. 2 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation, showing the parts appearing in Fig. 1.

A building 3 is provided with a window 3a, the latter having a stone sill 4 and a wooden sill 5, the wooden sill being slightly higher than the stone sill.

At 6 is a window box, which is merely a box of ordinary construction adapted to contain foods, fruits, vegetables, or other analogous materials.

At 7 'are two supporting strips, each provided with a portion 8 for engaging the stone sill 4. Each portion S I designate as a sill strip. Connected with the bottom of each sill strip 8 is a brace 9 which is also connected with the adjacent supporting strip 7. Integral with the sill strip S is a neck 10 which is continued so as to form a portion 11 of a holding strip 12. rIhis holding strip is secured upon the wooden sill 5 by aid of screws or bolts 13. The window box G is secured upon the supporting strip 7 by aid of bolts 14 and nuts 15.

In assembling the parts above described,it is immaterial whether the supporting strips 7 be connected with the -window box before Specification of Letters Patent.

the screws 13 are inserted or afterward. A very convenient way is to mount the holding strips 12 in position as indicated in Fig. 4, and then secure the box upon the supporting strips 7.

It will be noted that one edge of the box 6 rests upon the stone sill 4, the other edge of the box projecting outwardly some little distance and being braced and otherwise supported by aid of the braces S) and necks 10. The bracing strips 9 are subjected endwise to a compression strain, due to the weight of the box and its contents, the window box being thus rendered very secure. The supporting strips 7, necks 1() and holding strips 12 being integral, together constitute a simple but very strong bracket easily applied and'easily removed.

From the above description it will be noted that the stone sill 4 is never disturbed or mutilated in the slightest degree by the application of the window box. The wooden sill 5 is the only part which suffers and occurs only to the extent necessitated by the insertion of the screws 13.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting strip to be secured to the bottom of a box, a brace connected with said supporting strip, a neck integral with said supporting strip, and a holding strip integral with said neck and forming a continuation thereof, said supporting strip being provided with means whereby it may be secured upon a wooden sill.

2. A bracket for supporting window boxes or the like, comprising a supporting strip, a sill strip connected therewith and extending therefrom at an angle, a brace strip connected with said sill strip and with said supporting strip, and a holding strip connected with said supporting strip and extending upwardly from the latter, said holding strip also extending rearwardly from said supporting strip and in a general direction contrary to that in which said supporting strip extends.
