To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIAS RTBAGK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Screens, of which the following, when taken in connection-with the drawing accompanying and forming apart hereof, is a full and complete description sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to which it pertains to understand, make, and use the same.
This invention relates to window screens used to prevent flies or other insects passing through open windows.
The object of this invention is to obtain .a window screen which will not be in place before a window opening when the window thereof is closed and which willbe automatically put in place before the window.

A further obj ect of the invention is to obtain a window screen of the kind described which may be easily detached so that the window may be raised without automatically placing the screen before the opening thereof; and also a device which may easily be entirely removed from the window and readily replaced thereon, when desired.
A further object is to obtain a device of the kind named which will be certain in operation and require no care on the part of the operator and which when the window is closed will be protected from wind,vrain and snow. j
In the drawing referred to Figure l is a front elevation, from outside a building, of a window provided with a device embodying this invention, said window and device being closed. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of said window and device, on line 2--2 of Fig. l, viewed in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of a window having a device embodying this invention attached thereto, said window and device being partially open. Fig. 4 is an end elevation, on an enlarged scale, of a device embodying this invention. Fig. 5 is a plan View of a portion of one of the members of the screen of the device. Fig. 6 is a plan view of a portion of a base forming an element of the device. Fig. 7 is a vertical section of a latch and lifting pin forming an element of the Specification of Letters-Patent.

Hinges H, respectively, are constructed so that the pivots It, L, thereof stand out from the` planes in which the members g, g, g, and 9 lie; and said hinges .are attached to the members `which are joined togetherthereby so that saidpivots` are parallel to but set back from the edge of .at least one of said members. lhat I term the overhang which is obtained by this set back of the hinge is lettered J in Figs. 3 and 4, and this overhang protects the joints of the several members of the screen, when the screen is open, so that flies or insects can not pass through the device; and also said overhang provides for the proper folding of the members of the screen when the window is closed. The base I is removably fastened in place on window sill a by screws K, in slots z'. Screws K are shown as consisting of the well known eyelet headed screws, so that when said eyelet heads are in the same planes as the slots t', they will pass freely therethrough, and when in planes at right angles to the planes of the slots will not pass therethrough.
