COMBINED FEED-ROLLER AND PRESSURE-GUIDE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN S. GILES, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Owosso, in the county of Shia- Wassee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and usful Improvements in Combined Feed-Rollers and Pressure- Guides, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to work guides for molders, stickers and like machinery to hold the work to the fence during the operation and the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of a work guide on the arbor of the feed roll and revolving with the same, all as more fully hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of the work guide as in operation; and Figs. 2 and 3 are end views of the work guide dismounted from the arbor.
In the drawings 1 indicates the feed roll, 2 the arbor on which it is mounted, 3 the bed of the molder, 4; the fence and 5 the work fixed over the bed by the feed roller all as well known.
My improved work guide comprises a pressure disk 6, a guide sleeve 7 upon which it is mounted, a coil spring 8 upon the guide sleeve, a screw nut 9 and a screw nut 10 to hold the work guide in position upon the The guide sleeve 7 holds the feed roll in position against the shoulder 15 on the arbor and a key 16 or its equivalent iolds it in revolving engagement with the arbor. At its inner end it is provided wit-h a circular flange 11 and the adjacent face of the disk has a corresponding recess 12 to receive this flange.
The disk 6 projects beyond the periphery of the feed roll and the projecting portion is formed with a bevel 13 on the face adjacent the feed roll. The disk 6 is loose upon the feed roll but is held in revolving engagement therewith by a key 14, and its bevel face is preferably corrugated.

shown and described it will be seen that the work guide revolves as a whole with the feed roll and since the working face 13 of the disk forms an obtuse angle with the Working face of the feed roll the former bears against the adjacent upper corner of the work and being pressed by the spring 8 it will therefore crowd the work against the fence t and also against the work table. Since the pressure disk revolves with the feed roll and in thus revolving bears only against the corner of the work it practically assists the feed roller instead of creating a frictional resistance to the feeding as a stationary work guide will do, and thus it is practicable with my Work guide to use any desirable amount of pressure.
My invention thus forms a very efficient work guide of simple and durable construction and it has the additional advantage that it does not obstruct the bed of the machine.
The construction may be variously modified within the scope of my invention as for instance as the sleeve 7 may be an integral part of the feed roll, but I prefer for obvious reasons to make it as a unit, so that it can be mounted and dismounted as a whole.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A combined feed roll and pressure guide comprising a sleeve adapted to be secured upon an arbor to turn therewith and having a reduced and screwthreaded end, a nut engaging said screwthreaded end, a work engaging member mounted upon the sleeve and secured thereto to turn therewith and to slide longitudinally thereon, and a spring interposed between said member and said nut to move the member longitudinally of the sleeve.
2. A combined feed roller and pressure guide comprising a sleeve adapted to be secured to an arbor and provided with a reduced and screwthreaded end at one end and an outwardly extending flange at its opposite end, a flanged nut to engage the screwthreaded end of the sleeve, a work engaging pressure member mounted upon the sleeve mounted and provided with an inelined working face, and a recess inits end to receive the flange 0n the sleeve, said Working face extending at an inclination to engage the upper side of the Work and press downwardly and laterally thereon, means for securing said member to the sleeve to turn therewith and to slide longitudinally thereof, and a spring interposed between said li'iember and said nut on the end of the sleeve.
