This invention has reference to typewriting machines, and-whites to the formation or eonstruetion of the type arms o tsueh inaeliines. Y

In the annexed drawings Figure 1 is a front or face view of a type arm formed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation illustrative of the ordinary hell leverarrangement hy which such type arms :ire aetuated hy the ordinary key levers. lt will he noted that the type arm illustratml, carries three types, namely, small letters, capitals, and 'gures, either o which is caused to print by shifting the position or. the platen roller hy i'neans of shift keys.

The type arms l are similar in shape to two sides of a triangle, the type block 2 heing attached thereto near the apex of the angle, while the arms are pivoted :it their iower extren'iities or hase of the triangle. The axis of the pivot pins 3 forms in conjunction with the two limbs of the type arm a perfect triangle. onsequently an extremel rigid eonstruction of type arm is aiorde and any afijustment thereof must be effected at their pivot hearings. A bank of such pyramidal arms is arranged on each side of the machine, their apexes resting upon a suitable saddle piece 6. Each type arm 1 possesses a cranked extension 7, which maT7 be coupled in any suitable manner, as or example, by means of the rod 8, hell lever 9 and pull 10, with the levers ll of the type keys l2. v

1l aving now described our invention, what we caim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is#M 1. In combination a V-shaped type arm, :ilined journals on the extremities of said arm, the axis of which journals forms, withl the sides of the Vtype arm, a substantially triangular figure, a type-block on the arm near the apex oppoite the ot' the journals, and a lateral extension on one of said journals for actuating said arm; substantially as described.

2. ln combination, a. V-shaped type arm, double eonerl journals on each extremity of said arm, a supporting frame having correspondingly eoned recesses therein to receive said journals, and a stud for eenterin said journals in 'their sockets; substantie ly as described.
