VALVE-OPERATED MECHANISM FOR HANDLES OF VIBRATORY APPARATUS.

State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valve-Operated Mechanism for Handles of Vibratory Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description-of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in valve-actuated mechanism for handles of vibratory massage apparatus and comprises essentially a handle made up of sections with suitable filtering material therein adapted to be connected to a pneumatic chamber of massage apparatus and provided with a turning plug mounted in a contracted portion of the handle and forming convenient means whereby the thumb of an operator may conveniently regulate the force of the pneumatic current passing through the handle.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims. 1
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a handle equipped with my improved thumb operating valve. Fig. 2 is a central sectional view through the device, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A and B designate the two sections of the handle which have threaded connections, and C designates a screen interposed between an apertured partition D and the threaded end of the section B, said screen being provided to prevent the passage through the handle of particles of foreign matter. A tube E is fastened to the contracted end of the shell of the section B and affords means for attachment to a pneumatic chamber not shown. The section A is provided with a contracted neck A in which is formed a cylindrical chamber F to receive a plug valve G of the diametrically disposed aperture Gr formed therein. Said neck in the present instance is shown as having a nipple H fitted over the end thereof and bearing against the shoulders H. Fixed to one end of the plug valve is an angled strip N held by means of a screw N and one arm N of said strip extends over the outer circumference of the cylindrical part of the shell and forms a convenient means whereby the thumb of the hand of the operator holding the handle may turn the valve in order to regulate the course of the pneumatic current passing through the handle and nipple. Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings will be seen shoulders 0 formed in the outer face of the shell A adjacent to said cylindrical portion of the neck and forming means whereby the portion N of the strip N may contact to limit the rotary movement of the valve in opposite directions accordingly as it may be desired to reduce or increase the pressure of the pneumatic current passing through the handle.
By the provision of a handle embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that the thumb of the hand of the operator holding the handle may regulate the pneumatic forceof the current passing through the handle without requiring an additional hand to regulate valves, thereby leaving the other hand of the operator free for other uses.
What I claim to be new is 1. A handle for massage apparatus made up of sections fitted together and adapted to be connected to a suction apparatus, an apertured turning valve mounted in one of said sections and adapted to regulate the passageway through the handle, an angled strip fastened to one end of the plug, and means upon the neck cooperating with said strip to limit the rotary movement of the valve.
