To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES H. Lnwrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at White Earth, in the county of Montraille and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Holders for VVagon-Tongues, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to neck yoke holders for wagon tongues, and relates more particularly to spring clipped holders which are adapted to receive the neck yoke ring and maintain the same against accidental removal from the tongue.

The object of this invention is to produce a neck yoke holder of this class which while serving the purpose of securely holding the neck yoke against removal from the tongue 'is also adapted to hold the neck yoke for easy removal.

It is further intended to construct a device of this character which while adequately serving the above purpose, is simply and strongly constructed.

\Vith these and further objects which will hereinafter appear, my invention will now be fully set forth and described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which,

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device as applied to the end of a wagon tongue, and Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the device.

Referring more particularly to said drawings, 1 indicates the wagon tongue, having the usual clip 2 overlying the top of the tongue, and being turned downwardly and backwardly to engage the lower side of the tongue. In the construction shown, said clip 2 is provided at its lower portion 3 with an offset 4:, spaced from the tongue, and provided adjacent the bend thereof with a longitudinal slot 5 extending from said bend toward the end of said offset 4.

Inclosing the tongue 1 and the clip 2 near the end of said tongue, is a band or yoke 6, said band or yoke lying over said tongue and extending downwardly against the sides thereof, and having its ends occurring oppositely and bored at 7 to provide bearings for a pivoted arm 8. Said arm comprises a hook member 9, the bearing portion 10, and a loop 11 formed at the rear end of said arm 8 and extending upwardly to surround and operate vertically around said tongue 1.

Said loop '11, as shown in the present embodiment is or may be formed as a con tinuation of the arm, and is bent into the elongated loop form shown. Said hook member 9 is bent upwardly and backwardly, and has its free end normally projected into said slot 5. Secured between said offset 4L, and the lower side of the tongue 1 is the end of a spring 12. Said spring projects rearwardly, and has its rear end 13 bent downwardly and apertured to inclose the intermediate portion of said arm 8, which is permitted to slide therethrough. Said spring 12 bears downwardly on said arm 8, and tends to normally maintain the hook member 9 in its position within the slot 5. When the loop 11 is drawn upwardly, and arm 8 is drawn toward the tongue 1 against the tension of spring 12, said hook 9 is withdrawn from the aperture or slot 5, permitting the passage of a neck yoke ring a over the tip of tongue 1 and behind hook 9. It is evident from the above, that my improved device is a simple, serviceable and durable holder for neck yoke rings, and one which is applicable to any wagon tongue at present in use.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. A neck yoke holder, comprising in combination with a tongue, a clip having an offset secured to said tongue, said offset having a longitudinal slot formed therein, a yoke inclosing said tongue and having a depending bearing, an arm having a hook ournaled in said bearing, the free end of said hook projecting into said slot, a spring secured between said tongue and said offset and maintaining said hook normally projected into said slot, and a loop formed on the rear end of said arm and inclosing said tongue whereby said arm may be rocked to open said hook.

2. A neckyoke holder, comprising in combination with a tongue, a clip having an offset secured to said tongue, said offset having a longitudinal slot formed therein, a yoke inclosing said tongue and having a depending bearing, an arm having a hook ournaled in said bearing, the free end of said hook projecting into said slot, a spring secured between said tongue and said offset and having an end slidably engaging said arm and a loop formed on the rear end of said arm and inclosing said tongue whereby said arm may be rocked to open said hook.

3. A neck yoke holder, comprising in combination With a tongue, a clip overlying the top of the tongue and being turned downwardly and rearwardly to engage the lower side, oft-he tongue, being offset from the tongue at its free lower end and provided adjacent vthe bend formed by the offset portion With a longitudinal slot, a pivoted arm 1 supported from the tongue and having a hook member the freeend of which normally projects in said slot, and a spring having one end engaging between the offset portion of the clip and the under side of the tongue, and having its opposite end engaging the pivoted arm.
