DISK J'OINTER FOR FLOWS To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. EMMETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adrian, in the county of Douglas and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Disk Jointers for Plows, of which the following is a specification,
The present invention relates to improvements in jointers, such as are employed in connection with plows for turning under all stubble, tall grass, weeds, loose straw or undesirable seed which might be on top of the ground.
The object of the invention is the provision of an improved jointer of this character which embodies a novel construction, whereby it can be both vertically and laterally adjusted as required and set so as to operate effectively upon all kinds of loose soil.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a disk j ointer embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the clamp, the members of the clamp being shown as separated. Fig. 4: is a similar view of the journal box. I
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and inclicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters. I
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the beam of a plow which may be of any conventional construction. Fitted against one side of the beam 1 is a clamp 2 which comprises a pair of plates having their opposing faces formed with vertical grooves receiving the upper end of a standard 3. The up er portions of the plates are formed with orwardly projecting ears 2 while the lower portions are formed with rearwardly projectin ears 2, the said ears being formed with a ining openings receiving the arms of a U-bolt or clip 4. This U-bolt serves the double function of securing Specification of Letters Patent.

the clamp 2 to the plow beam and also of drawing the two members of the clamp together to securely grip the standard which is disposed between them. Carried by the lower end of the standard 3 is a journal box which is formed with a lower plate 5 and an upper plate 6, the said plates being held together by some fastening means, such as the bolts 7, and being formed with corresponding depressions designed to receive the knob 8 at the end of the axle 9 of the disk 10. The lower plate 5 is also formed with a vertically disposed socket 11 receiving the lower end of the standard 3, a pair of set screws 12 being utilized for clamping the plate upon the standard and preventing its rotation thereabout. It will be obvious, however, that by loosening these set screws the journal box can be revolved about a vertical axis so as to set the disk 10 at any desired angle with respect to the direction of movement of the plow. The jointer 10 is circular in shape and of a dished formation, and the axle 9 of the j ointer is integral with a plate 9 which is riveted or otherwise rigidly connected to the back of the disk. An intermediate portion of the standard 3 is off-set at 3* so that by turning the standard about a vertical axis, the disk can be swung from side to side and laterally adjusted as desired. It will thus be obvious that with the foregoing construction, the jointer is so mounted that it can be set at any desired inclination with respect to the direction of movement of the plow and adjusted both vertically and laterally as required.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a device as specified the combination with a plow, of a standard adjustably mounted upon the plow for vertical and rotatable movement, the lower end of said standard being cranked, a plate carried by said standard and having a vertical bore at one end thereof for the reception of the standard, set screws passed through the plate and engaging with the standard to retain said plate in adjusted position upon the standard, a covering plate detachably mounted upon the upper face of the first named plate, the inside faces of both of said plates having corresponding semi-cylindrical depressions extending from one end thereof, In testimony whereof I afiix my signature the depressions being enlarged at their inner in presence of two witnesses.
ends to form semi-spherical sockets an axle having an enlarged spherical end pesitioned JOHN EMMETT' between said plates and carried in said de- \Vitnesses:
pressions, and a disk rigidly mounted upon W. H. POLLITT,
said axle. MARY WARD.
