To all whom it may concern: Be it known that we, Jnssn G. Evans and PALMER G. 'H citizens of the United States, bo'th residing at Lumberton, in the count of Robeson and State of North Carolina, lave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rail Chairs and. Couplings, of which the following is a specifica tio -equipment for railways, and the invention has for its object a particularly efiicient rail chair and con ling which is adapted to be spiked or si rni arly fastened to the railway tie and is. arranged toreceive the meeting ends of the rails and to rigidly couple the same together, and which embodies a novelv arrangement of partshvhereby it is rendered susceptibleiof bein expeditiously'npglied to that we shall hereinafter fully describe and' then point out the novel features of in the appended claims.

' j The nuts 13 of the bolts are turned with one face opposed to the curved portion 7, and are loc (ed in adjusted position by the insertion of the rod 12, which completes the attaching operation.
From theforcgoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be' apparent that-we have provided an improved rail chair and coupling, which embodies to a marked degree the characteristics of-simplicity, durability and strength; which after application to the rail requires no subsequent attention; and which may be .easily and cheaply manufactured so as to admit of its general adoption.
