The separating or dividing member 7' is here shownas mounted for vertical sliding movement and in the form of an angle metal bar disposed ud'acent the u iper edge of the chute 8'. Said member or bar 7' is adj ustcd by providing on a transverse, shaft 82 eccentrics 88 which have strapjrms 84 pivotally connected by means of brackets 85 to the member or bar 7. The shaft 82 is mounted in suitable bearin ed of the side plates 1 an has on one end a mil wheel'86 by means of which itima'y be rotated to cause the eccentrics to raise or lower said member or bar 7. To retain the latter in adjusted position a ratchet wheel 87 is fixed to the shaft 82 and en ged by a pawl 88 pivoted on the adjacent si i e plate 1'. These plates 62 are also preferably of triangular aha and are arranged with their apcxes turn upwardly and the inclined portions of their front, or upper edges are preferably notched as shown at 68, so that as they reciprocate they will stop the pieces of slate and push them laterally into the kets formed in the feed member 4'. Sai shuttle plates or members 62 are secured b rivets 64 or the like to plates 65 arran for sliding movement on the top of the chute 2*. (iuide pins 66 in the form of bolts, project from the lutcs 62, 65, through guide slots 67 forinet in the chute or other support, whereby said plates 62 will be guided in their reeipi'ocatorv movement transversely of the device. The shuttle plates 6;. are preferably ieeiprmated by anguarly arran ed cams 68 provided on the upper edge 0 the oscillatory feed member 4' and adapted to work in recesses 69 formed in the rear or lower edges of said plates 62,65. It will be seen that as such member 4' oscillates vertically, the cams 68 will reciprocate the shuttle plates 62 laterally. It is thought. that the applicacation of my improvements to this machine, and also to the one shown in Fig. 8 will be ieadily understood without furtherexplanation.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. In a machine of the character described, the combination of a flat, downwardly inclined, chute, transverse ides upon the chute. a plate slidably enga with said guides for reeiprocatory movement tiansvenwly of the chute to en slate or other tlat material and deflect it aterally, an oscillatory feed member in the chute, and means actuated by the latter tor reciprocating said deflecting plate.
2; In a machine of the character described, the combination of a chute, a slate deflecting plate mounted for transverse ret-i roeatory movement ,in the cli iite and having its front or upper fife inclined @nd notched, an oscillatory, f m the chute having keta to receive slate detlccted b sai plate, means for actuating said fee member, and means for actuating said deflecting plate, from said feed member.
3. In a machine of the character described, the combination of a chute, transverse guides upon the chute a plate alidably engaged with said guides for reciprocatory movement transversely of said chute to enga slate or other flat inateiial and ddect it literally, an oscillatory feed member, and a cam upon the latter for reciprocating said plate transveisely of the chute.
4. In a machine of the character described, the coinbinatioli of a chute, transengaged with said guides or reciprmratory movement trausreisely of said chats to engage slate or other tlat material and delleet it aterally, an oscillatory feed member having pockets to receive slate deflected by sa id plate, means for aetuatin said plate. aml means for actuating said eed member.
5. In a machine of the character described, the combination of a chute, an oscillatory feed member arranged therein and provided with -kets, a laterally reci )roeating slate def eeting member arranger on said chute in advance of the feed member and actuated b the latter, and means for actuating said eed member.
