- armacnINe-PLUG.
To all whomit "may concern: l
R; SAnenN'r,
Schenectady, county of Schenectady, State of New York, have invented certain ne'w and useful Improvements in Attaching-Pings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices fol-.makin connections in electric `circuits, and its ob]ect is to simplif ,the construction and provide greater Vsa eguards 'against -overloads in attaching.plugs. Y
The invention consists, in brief, cfa plu havin a removable Vinclosed fuse in "eac side ,o thecircuit, andra removable cap caring contacts which cooperate with clips in In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of the body of an attaching plug embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudina central section ofthe entire plug; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the cap; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the contacts on the cap; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the clips Fig. 6 is a perspective view of lthe phragm which covers .the fuses. c'
The body 1, cap 2 and diaphragm are made preferabl of Amolded insulation, such as orcelain. he body has a cylindrical nec 4 rovidedwith a4 screw-threaded media- .tallic s eeve 5 .having an internal flange at 'its outer end which is clamped by a Washer 6-of insulation placed against the end of the neck and secured by a long screw 7 which passes centrally through said neck` and engages with a tapped hol'e in a bar 8 of hard rubber or b'er extending diametrically across a recess, formed in the 1. A. metallic washer 9 is placed under the head of the screw 7. A diaphragm 3 preferably of orcelain, fits easily into the recess in the body and rests upon -th e bar 8 being ,secured in place b a screw 10 passing throu h a central ho e 11 in said-d1aphragm an er;n re
a 'n with a ta ped hole in the bar 8, raglilyg the same gicle as that into whic the screw 7 enters. The space between the dialhra and the bottom of the recess is thus ivi ed by the bar 8 into two separate chambers. An inclosed fuse 12 `12..-1s located in each chamber. The fuses are of the cartrid type and are held at each end in the resi lent )aws of a clamp 13 '14 15 16 which peoicatlon of Letters Patent. application aleaomhsr i, 1901. serial lo. 395,457.

allow them to be easily inserted and removed when desired. The clamp 13 in one chamber is suitably connected with the. metallic' sleeve 5, while the clamp 14` in the other chamber is connected with 'the central screw!I 7 the sleeve and screw forming the contacts for connecting said clamps with the termi nals of a circuit when the into a line receptacle. The c amps 15 16 are in line, respectively, with the clamps 13 14, and each one has a clip 17 18 extending respectively toward openings 19 20 in the diaphra 9. The preferred construction of the c amps 15 16 and their clips is shownin Fig. 5, where the clamp and clip are seen to be V-shapedf pieces of axes at right angles. An L-shaped metallic plate 21 is laid in the bights of these two pieces and a fastening screw 22 is tapped into said plate, through a hole in the body 1.
The cap 2 has a central hole, 23 for the entrance of a conducting cable Whose terminals can be secured by binding screws 24 to lates 25 attached to theinside of the cap an having preferably integral Contact blades 26 27 f which are adapted, when the cap is put on the body, to pass through the openings 19 lug is screwed- 20 and engage with the clips 17 18, respectively.
The construction is exceedingly compact and symmetrical, and yet affords ample protection against short-circuiting. The double fuse feature gives an especially ood rotcction against overloads, and if a use b ows it can be readily replaced by an unskilled p Person.
What I claim as new and desire to secure` by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. An attaching plug `having a recessed body divided into two chambers, a line ter minal -in each chamber, and a removable inclosed fuse in each chamber.
2. An attaching plug having a recessed body divided into two chambers, a line` terminal in each chamber, a removable inclosed fuse in each chamber, and a perforated diaphragm covering said fuses but affording access to said terminals.
y3. An attaching plug having a recessed body divided into two chambers, a line terminal in each chamber, 'fuse in each chamber, a perforated diaphragm covering said fuses but affording access to said terminals, and .a removable cap a removable inclosed Carrying branchline terminals adapted to ygass through saitl diaphragm.
e, in attaching plug having a recessed body, a' transverse bar of insulation therein dividing .it`into two clian'ibers, a pair of clamps in each chamber, a removable inclosetl fuse received in each pair ol clamps, clip in each chamber connected. with one oil said clamps, and a cap carrying contacts to engage with said clips.
5. An attaching plug having a recessed body, a bar olf' insulation dividing said recess into two chambers, a diaphragm secured to said bar7 a pair o clamps in each charnber, an inclosed fuse removably held in each pair ot clamps7 a clip in each chamber connectetl with one of said clamps, a cap having a hole for a cable, and contact blades inside clips for a horizontal inclosecl fuse, one plate in each chamber being connected to one of said terminals, and a cap for the chambered part of the body.
In witness whereof7 I have hereunto set my hand. this 27th (lay oi beptembcr. 1907.
