UNITEI) STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN F. LAUN, 0F WA'IERVI LLE, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR T0 BERBECKER &
ROWLAND MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF WATERVILLE,
PORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 4, 1909. Serial No. 526,162.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN F. LATIN,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Waterville, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in brackets, and more particularly to such as are employed for use in connection with curtain poles, rods, or the like, the object being to provide a. bracket which will be cheap and economical to construct, neat in appearance, and with which the rod or pole may be easily and readily assembled.-
A further object of my invention is to provide a bracket which will effectually hold the ends of the curtain pole in engagement therewith, and without danger of their becoming accidentally disengaged. I
A further'object of my invention is to so construct the bracket that it may be used either as an outside or inside bracket, and either on the right or left hand side-of adoor jamb, window frame, etc, and with these and other ends in view, consists in certain novel features of construction and combine-- tions of parts, as .will be hereinafter fully described and specifically pointed. out in the claims.
' In the accompanyin drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation o my improved bracket h'avin an extension curtain rod engaged or assem led therewith, the brackets being shown as outside brackets. Fig. 2 is a view showing the brackets in use as inside brackets} Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the bracket and. one end of the curtain pole assembled therewith. Fig. 4 is a detached view in perspective of the bracket. I
Referring to the drawings, 5 represents a windo'w'frame, door jamb, or the like,-to which the brackets and pole are secured, 6 representing a telescopic rod or curtain pole rovided on each of 1ts ends with aferrule formed with the ball or knob 8, and having openings 9-10 formed in a vertical line for the reception of the spring arm of the bracket. Each of these brackets comprises a plate 11 formed with the spellings 12 for the reception of retaining iis or screws 13 for n; Securing it to thewindow frame 5.. The
bracket about midway its length isbent to form the horizontal plate 14 and then into the vertical arm 15, this latter arm formed by bending the metal over and upon itself CONNECTICUT, A COR Patented May 3', 1910.
forming the spring fingers or sections 16, 17,
the extreme lower end of the spring finger 17 being turned inwardly as illustrated at '18 to prevent its catching or engaging the ball or knob 8.
Near the lower end of the arm 15, the metal of the spring fingers 16-17 is bent outwardly to form the retaining s herical shaped ball or knob 19 which when t 1e parts are assembled as;illustrated in the sectional view (Fig. 3), fits within the hollow ball 8 to retain the parts in their assembled position.
It will be noted by reference to Figs. 1
and 2 that the bracket ma be used either as an outside orinside brac et, and-either on the right or left hand side of the window frame; furthermore, that in assembling the rod with the brackets, the arm 15 projects upwardly through the openings 9, 10, the sides of these openings causing the sections 16, 17, to close or approacheach other, and
to again separate after the ball or knob 8 has passed over and beyond the retaining enlargement 19. This projection or enlarge -ment, fitting within the ball or knob 8, is
hidden thereby, and thus in no way detracts from the appearance of the article. Furthermore, it effectually locks the several parts in their proper relative positions and avoids an and all dan er of the pole becoming ac- .ci entally disengaged from the bracket.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bracket for use in connection with a curtain pole, comprising a vertical plate for attachment of the bracket in place, 'said' late being bent at right angles and then into a vertical arm, said arm being formed 'by bending the metal over upon itself and provided near its lower end with a spherical retaining projection, substantially as described.
2. The combination with acurtain pole provided on each end with a ball having.
openings therein, of brackets each comprisQ ng a vertical attaching angles into a horizonta plate and theninto plate bent at right a'vertical arm, said arm being fermed by Signed at Waterville, in the county of bending the metal over and upon itself and New Haven, and State of Connecticut, this provided near its lower end with a retaining lst-dey of Nov. A. D. 1909.
spherical projection adapted when the parts CHRISTIAN F. LAUN. 5 are asser'nbled,- to be contained within the Witnesses:
ball on the end of said pole, substantially as P. S. MORSHEAD,
described. L. W. GURTIs.
