My present invention relates to that class of wire drawing machines in which a rota-ting block isfemployed, whereon the wire is into and out of engagement with the driving power, and I accomplish this object by the construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and pointed out in the annexed claims, I

is driven from a horizontal shaft 5 by means of beveled gears 6' and 7, in the usual manner of wire drawin machines of this class.
The under side 0" the wire drawing block is provided with an annular track 8, beneath which are friction rolls 9, 9 carried in the 'arms 10, 10 of a yoke 11, which-is pivotally sup orted in bearings 12, 12 in the framewor of the machine. The yoke 11 is provided with an arm18 capable of being depressed, in order to rock the yoke 11 and raise the friction rolls 9, 9, for the purpose of lifting the wire drawing block on the vertical shaft at, in order to disengage the clutching mechanism 3, 3. The free end of the arm 13 is pivot-ally'connected by means of a link 14 witha radial arm 15 on a rocking shaft 16, which carries at its outer end altwo-armed foot treadle 17, said radial arm 15 and link 14 forming a toggle-joint connection between the shaft 16 and the free end of the arm 13.
The arm 13 is connected with the fixed framework'of the machine by ineans of a spiral spring 18, with its tension exerted to de 'ress the arm 13 and raise the friction ro is 9, 9 in order to throw the clutching .mechanism 3, 3" out of engagement and stop therotation of the wire drawing block 2. By depressin the end 19 of the two-armed foot treadle, te toggle-joint is thrown into the position shown m Fig. 1, with the end 19 of the foot treadle 17 against a fixed stop 20 on the framework of the machine, and with the pivot 21, connecting the link 14and arm 15, carried just past a strai ht line joining the axes of the-shaft 16 and the pivot 22 connecting the link 14 and the arm 13, so that the tension of the spring 18 will hold the toggle-joint in position, with the free end of the arm 13 substantiall at its highest point to hold'the friction rol s 9, 9 in their lowest position, and with the clutching mechanism 3, 3 in engagement.
\Vhen it is desired to'stop the rotation of the wire drawing block 2, the left hand end 23. of the two-armed foot treadle 17 is depressed sutriciently to carry the ivot 21 ast the line-connecting the axes of the roc ing shaft 16 and the pivot 22, when the spring 18 will instantly act to throw the togglei'oint into the position indicated by broken ines 24:, and sufficiently past the center to elevate the friction rolls 9, 9. and raise the wire drawin block on the vertical shaft 4 to throw the c utching mechanism out of engagement.
Referring to Figs. 3 and 4, I have shown vention, which consists in interposing between the link 14 and the free one of the arm of the lifting yoke a short arm and a bent link 26, instca d of connecting the link 14 di rectlv to the free end oi the arm of the l' ing yoke, as shown in F l and "he arm 25 ispivoted at one end to fixed bracket 27, and its free end is pivotally connected to both the link 1i and to one end of tae bent link 26, which is connected at its other end to the end of an arm 38 extending from a swinging yoke 29 having friction rolls 30, 30, which lift the wire drawing lock 2 as the free end of the arm 28 is dopressed. The swinging end of the arm 25 is connected by a spring 31 with the fixed framework of the machine at When the parts are in the position shown I by the hill lines in Fig. 3, the arm 28 is raised and the rolls 3G, depressed, allowing the weight of the wire drawing block 2 to carry it down to engage the clutching .members between the block and the verticzl driving shaft 4. In this position the pivot- 33 is held to the right of a straight line passing from the center of the treadlc shaft 16 to the center of the pivot 33, with the end 19 of the foot treadle 17 resting against the fixed stop 20 and locking the arm against the pulling tension of the spring 31.
By depressing the end 23 of the foot treadle sufficiently to carry the pivot '21 to the left of a straight line joining the center of the shaft 16 and the pivot 33, the spring 31 will be allowed to act to carry the arm 25 into the position shown by the broken lines 25*, bringing the bent link 26 into the position shown by the broken lines 6- and depressing the arm 28 into the position shown by the broken lines 28, causing the wire drawing block 2 to be lifted out of engagement with its clutching mechanism.
In the position of the parts indicated by broken lines in Fig. 3, the pivotal connections between the opposite ends of the bent link. 26 at 34 and 35 will lie in a straight line passing slightly to the left of the center of the pivot 25*, thereby locking the parts against movement by the weight of the wire block 2 as it is held 111-21 raised position on the rolls 30, 30.
