MYER KAMENSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHEET-METAL BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 27, 1910.
Serial No. 540,305. 1
To all whom, 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYER KAMENSTEIN, a citizen of Russia, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Metal Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sheet metal box more particularly adapted for the reception of money and provided with interlocking receptacles for the bills and specie which effectively protect the contents of the box against pilfering.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a plan of the box, showing it open, with the cover partly broken away; Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section on line 2 2, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a vertical longitudinal section on line 3 3, Fig. 2.
To the back of a rectangular sheet metal box 10 is hinged a cover 11 which may be closed by lock 12. The front 13 of the box has a lower rectangular opening 14 extending from side to side and adapted for the introduction and removal of a drawer 15. This drawer is provided with a handle 16 and is divided by longitudinal partitions 17 into a suitable number of bill-receiving com-l partments 18.
Within the upper part of box 11 is removably suspended a tray 19 by means of bent side flanges 20 which grasp the sides of the box. This tray is provided with suitable pockets 21 and troughs 22 adapted for the reception of segregated coins. From the bottom of tray 19 depend two rear props 23 and two front props 24, which project into drawer 15 in proximity, respectively, to the back and front thereof and prevent the removal of the drawer while the tray remains in its normal suspended position.
To open the drawer, the tray` is slightly raised, so that the props clear the drawer, the latter is partly pulled out until the back of the drawer is advanced beyond the rear props and then the tray is again lowered. The drawer may now be freely pulled out, its movement being, however, checked by the front props which thus constitute abutments that prevent the complete separation of the drawer from the box.
It will be seen that when lid 11 is locked, tray 19, as well as `drawer 15 are vlikewise locked against removal, so that their contents are effectively protected. After the box has been opened, the tray may either be manipulated in the manner above described, to partly release the drawer, or it may be entirely removed from the box, in which case the props will constitute feet for the tray.
I claim:
1. A sheet metal box provided with a lower drawer, an upper suspended tray having a bent flange adapted to engage the top of the box, and depending props adapted to enter the drawer.
2. A sheet metal box provided with a lid, a lower drawer, an upper suspended tray having bent side flanges adapted to engage the sides of the box, and depending rear and front props adapted to enter the drawer in proximity to the back and front thereof.
MYER KAMENSTEIN.
