-a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the .city of Worcester, county of 'VVorcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Bit or Auger, of

"The above described parts are all that constitute the bit or auger proper, but in order that the cutter 6 may be made to move radially as the bit or auger is drawn or forced into the material in which the hole is beingbored, various mechanical devices maybe employed, one form of which is shown in the drawings. It is composedof the following elements. 16 represents a ring that rests on the surface of the material in which the hole is to be bored, 7 a smaller ring which encircles the shank 5 and 18 one or more connections between the two.
