To all whom fit may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD E. ZEIsKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bellville, in the county of Austin, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mailing-Galleys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to 'make and use the same.

The invention relates to a type galley, and more particularly to the class of mailing` galleys for receiving' type matter adapted for use in Mustang mailer machines.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a galley of this character in which the type when deposited therein may be thoroughly cleaned without 11p-setting the galley, as the cleansing uid will be permitted to drain from the same without injury thereto and the type matter retained therein.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a galley of this character, the construction of which is generally improved, and that will possess material points of advantages over this class of devices so as to enable the ready and easy handling of the type matter and also permit the quick and proper cleaning thereof.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a galley of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly efficient and reliable in operation and inexpensive in the manufacture.

Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings which disclose the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention to Venable those skilled in the art to practice the same and as pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of a galley constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view thereof.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.

Referring to the drawings by numerals 5 designates generally a type galley comprising a metallic bottom or base plate 6 of rec- Specication of Letters Patent.

tangular shape, end walls 7, spacer plates 8 and side walls 9, the spacer plates 8 being interposed between the end walls 7 and the bottom 6 and the opposite extremities of the side walls 9 are superimposed upon the said spacer plates 8 to hold the side walls slightly elevated above the bottom 6 and also to provide slots or openings 10 between the side walls and bottom of the galley for purposes to be hereinafter described.

The side and end walls are united in any suit-able manner while the spacer plates 8 and the bottom 6 are secured thereto by suitable fasteners to form a rigid unitary structure. The side and endwalls are preferably formed of metal and likewise are the spacer plates.

At intervals in the side walls 9 and passed through the same and the bottom 6 are supporting pins 1l which latter intersect the openings or slots l0 and serve in their purpose to prevent the side bars and bottom from displacement with respect to each other relative to their normal position.

The type matter 12 is disposed or deposited in the galley 5 in the usual manner with the use of metallic filling blocks and spacer plates of the ordinary character.

It has heretofore been experienced that after type matter has been washed in the usual manner once a day for a period of several months in galleys of the ordinary character there is a great deal of foreign matter collected on'the type which practically renders the same useless when replaced in the type case. Furthermore it has been noted that when the galley and type have been washed with lye and afterward rinsed with water the galley will swell or materially warp thereby rendering the same of no further use. It will be pointed out that due to the location of the openings or slots lO between the side walls and the bottom 6 of the galley they will permit the thorough washing or cleansing of the type and also assure the draining of the cleansing fluid from the type without the necessity of up-setting the galley or disturbing the type therein. `Furthermore in view of the fact that the galley is entirely constructed of metal material there is no possibility of the same warping or otherwise being distorted.

From the foregoing the construction and manner of use of the galley will be clearly apparent without the necessity of a more Walls and bottom and also intersecting the 10 said opening.
