. Be it known that I, Josnrn E. Prnunonn,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summitand State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Artificial Bait, of which the ollowing is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in artificial bait for anglers use and the prima object thereof 1s to provide an artificia bait having the form of some natural bait, the body of which is preferably nonmetallic, covering which is a sheathi-n or coating of metal to better preserve the ait from the action of the elements and to enable it to more successfully resist the wear incident, to the use thereof and es ecially the damage caused by the oints of t e hooks.

A further object o I this invention is to provide a body portionformed as. hereinbefore described havingnovel means for attaching and holding hooks laterally-disposed with respect to the body of the bait.

Further objects of this invention are to provide a bait wherein the means of attachment of the various hooks em loyed as well as the manner of attaching t e line to the bait are simple, strong, efiiclent in use, durable, easily set up, and one in. which the hooks employed cannot by ordinary usage become fouled with each other orwlth the body of the bait.

A still further object of this invention is toprovide an artificial bait having as lifelike an appearance as possible in order to im rove the killing properties thereofr ther advantages constituting objects of this invention will more fully appear in the subjoined description.

A practical embodiment of this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the difierent figures.

The bait is secured to a controlling line 11 by means of a threaded rod 12 screwed into the end of the'same and passing longitudinally andcentrally through a portion thereof, also transversely through the opening 3 and loop 9 the link 5. This rod 12 is provided with an eye 13 to receive the line 11. Mounted on the rod 12'between the eye 13 and the body of the bait is a freely-rotatable spinner 14 held against longitudinal shifting by means of a bead 15. The rod 12 passing through the loop 9 of the link 5 serves to prevent the link from shifting transversely in the opening 3, due to any cause as a pull on either of the hooks 10.

Screwed into the rear end of the body 1 is a threaded rod 16 provided with an eye 17 on which is a hook 18. Mounted on the rod 16 is a spinner 19 held in position by means of a rotatable bead 20. The body of the bait ma also be provided with a pair of members 21 lmitatin eyes. I

In an artificial bait, a pre-formed buoyant non-metallic body-portion, and a seamless metallic facing therefor, said facing being of substantially e ual thickness throughout a cross-section o the facing wall, the body-portion and the facing having their opposing faces completely complemental one 4 to the other and in .intimate connection throughout on the surface of the body-portion, whereby the facing will be supported; against inward ressure and relative movement of the b0 y-portion and facing prevented. i i
