To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES D. DURKnn, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Suction-Pump Terminal, of which the following is a specification, the same being a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such is will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a combined connection and strainer which may be used primarily for a pump fitting for a boat, and in which are embodied certain novel features of combination and arrangement of parts, of simple construction and efficient in operation, all of which will be hereinafter specifically described and fully illustrated in the drawings which represent an embodiment of my invention, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my suction pump terminal, and Fig. 2 is a view, partly In section, showing the same attached to its support.

My combined connection and strainer and pump and terminal is preferably made of cast metal and is of a general mushroom shape, and consists ordinarily of a hollow, hemispherical head A provided on its circumference with a number of ordinarily flarin outlets or passages a, which are practically radially disposed. From the imperforate base or face A located below the said hemis herical head, projections, as a plurality oi dependin prongs, extend, thus forming an uneven ace to engage the body of the boat, when, as in ractice, the boat is in the water. Communicating with the head A, and preferably formed integral therewith, and with the base A, is a tubular shank or neck A, threaded ata, on which thread works a nut B, the said shank formin a relatively smaller centrally located tu e or pipe.
When the invention is used in connection with a suction pump, the water, etc, will pass through the perforations, the entrance therein of solid material being prevented by the imperforate portion of the cad.
In operation, the combined connection and strainer is attached to a plate or stri of suitable material, as for instance, wood (5 the same preferably consisting of the bottom of a boat, the shank A being passed through an orifice in the same, and u on the nut B being placed on the shank, t e said nut, in connection with the prongs (1 or uneven face of the head, will hold the entire structure rigidly, and in an immovable relation.
My combined connection and strainer and pump terminal is very stron and durable and the head being prefera ly cast integrally, the expense of making the perforations is not only done awa with, but the danger of an imperfect joint between the shank and head, as is liable to occur with a loosely attached composite structure, is obviate The body (l is adapted to lie in the water, and the feed pipe D for a suction pump may be contained within the same. An orifice is bored in the said body C, and the shank A of the suction pum terminal, consisting of a hollow neck, is a apted to pass through the orifice and to be connected with the said feed pipe D of the pump. The enlarged, perforated and rounded head A, communicatin with the said neck, is adapted to lie exterior of the body G in the water, the base A resting against the wood. The nut B, which lies against the interior face of the said body, works on the threaded shank A and serves to hold the pump terminal secufielycto the preferably wooden supporting By means of the use of my invention, forei substances in the water are warded off without undue friction, and prevented from entering into the ump, and the rounded head A serves to o viate friction when the body 0 is moved through the water.
The invention therefore com rises, in connection with the bottom of a loat in which a pum is located, a pump fitting passing throng the same, having an enlarged head or face, and having in ractice an uneven or non-smooth inner ear ace, the rojecting portions of which en age the libat body primarily, and a pre erabl integral exteriorly rounded face forme with erforations, the said parts forming a rigi or integral whole, the uneven inner face, lying against the boat, together with the exterior rounded face, combining, in ractice to prevent the fitting from being isplaced by any bodies in the water, which ma come in contact with the said exterior ace of the fitting.
I wish it to be understood that I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
What I claim as my invention is In combinatioma boat bottom, a pump fitting passing therethrough, said fitting comprising an integral perforated head and uneven or pro'ecting portions which engage the boat bo y and an exteriorly rounded face, the uneven face of said head and rounded face combining in practice to pre- I the fitting.
