' The invention therefore consists of a chain or other yielding connection attached tothe arch or brake beam, and in a movable and operative connection with'the suitable valve located in the train pipe, whereby the accidental displacement of the brake beam or rigging forming apart of the latan escape of air 1n the train pipe and simultaneously setting tire train to which m invention is applied. Referring to the rawings, 1 represents an ordinary car having the usual wheels 2, shaft or axle 3 and 'boxes 4, all of which is of the ordinary construction. The brake beam 5 is also of the usual conva ve casing nature of m automatically set the bra slotted, through whi struction' and is suspended from the draft rigging of the car in the usual and wellknown manner and is provided with the ordinary brake shoes.
Passing through the brake beam 5and secured thereto 1n any suitable mechanical manner are eye-bolts 6 to which are secured the .op osite free ends of the chain -7, the
latter eing adjustable along its length by turn-buckles 8, the uniting endsof said chain terminating ata common center and being attached to the free end of the lever 9, all of which Willbehereinafter more fully described. From the foregoing description it will be seen that when the brake beam 5 is in its normal or operative position in respect to the wheels of the car the valve will be in a closed position to prevent any escape of air from the train pipe, but should the said brake beam drop or become displaced from its normal or proper position, the said valve will be automatically operated causing the port in said valve to register or communicate with the opening 15 of the valve casing,
- thereby allowing an escape from the train pipe and causing the brake of the particular car or train to be automatically set, all
of which is of the usual and Well-known construction.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
1. A. car brake comprising a suitable valve in communication within the train pipe, and suitable means connected with said valve and with the brake beam of a car, as i v and for the purpose described. I
2. A car brake comprr'ng a sultable valve communicating with and forming a part of the train pipe, and suitable means 1 attached to said valve and also to the brake i beam of a car, whereby when. said brake i beam is accidentally displaced the said valve is automatically operat'edfor permitting an escape of air from the train pipe, as and for i i the purpose described.
3. A" car brake comprising a suitable valve having a longitudinal and transverse port formed therein and adapted to register .1
