Be it known that I, CHARLS M. Morin, a citizen of the United States, residing at Struthers, in the county of Mahoning, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Safes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to match safes, of the class wherein provision is made for discharging the matches one at a time, and has for one of its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.

\Vith this and other objects inview the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereafter shown and de scribed and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 83 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a transverse section on the line 44 of Fig. 3.

The improved device comprises an inclosing casing 10 having two receptacles for matches therein and represented respectively at 1112, the receptacle 11 having an inclined bottom 13 and the receptacle 12 having an inclined bottom 14, the bottom 11 extending into the casing to a lower point than the inclined bottom 13, so that the receptacle 12 is of greater depth than the receptacle 11. The inclined members 13-1 l extend inwardly toward each other, and slidably disposed between the two receptacles is a delivery plate 15, the plate having a transverse slot or opening 16, as shown. The side edges of the plate 16 operate preferably in guideways 1718 formed in the inner faces of the side members of the casing 10, so that the opening or cavity 16 extends the full width of the space between the side members of the casing, and likewise the full width of the receptacles 11-12, the object to be hereafter explained.

Extending transversely of the casing 10 is a vertical partition 19, this partition forming a vertical continuation of the inclined bottom 18 of the receptacle 11, with the delivery plate hearing against the partition,

as shown. Extending between the side members of the casing 10 and beneath the inclined member 11 is a horizontal partition 20 which forms the receptacle for the discharged match, the upper face of the member 20 being located below the lower terminal of the inclined member 1 1, and likewise below the cavity 16 when the plate 15 is in its lowest position, as shown in Fig. 3.

The partition 19 is provided with a vertical slot 21 in which a guide pin 22 is located. Surrounding the guide pin is a coiled spring 23, and attached to the delivery plate 15 is a bracket 2 1 through which the pin 22 extends and upon which the spring 23 bears. By this means it will be obvious that the spring 23 exerts its force to maintain the delivery plate yieldably in its lowest position.

The receptacle 11 is provided with a hinged cover 25 while the receptacle 12 is provided with a similar hinged cover 26, and the delivery plate 15 extends above the casing between the two hinged covers and is provided with a pulling knob 27, to enable it to be actuated.

The matches to be delivered are deposited in the receptacles 1112, and bear against the opposite sides of the delivery plate by gravity, as will be obvious, and when a match is required the operator elevates the plate 15 through the medium of the knob 27, and when the opening 16 passes above the lower terminal of the inclined member 14-, the lowermost match in the receptacle will fall into the opening by gravity and then when the plate 15 is released, this particular match will be carried downwardly and delivered upon the plate 20, the cavity 16 being just large enough to receive one match.

Vhen the matches within the receptacle 12 are exhausted, the plate 15 is then elevated to bring the opening 16 above the lower terminal. of the member 13, when the lowermost match in the receptacle 11 will fall into the opening and be carried downward and delivered upon the plate 20, as before described. By this means one match only will be delivered at each action of the plate.

The improved device may be manufactured of any desired material and of any required size or capacity, and will be found very useful in cigar stores and similar pul he places.

What is claimed, is

1. A match safe comprising a casing having two matchreceptacles therein with their bottoms inclined toward each other and of unequal depth, and a delivery member slidable between said receptacles and provided with a match receiving cavity, adapted to be arranged to communicate with either of the receptacles.

2. A match safe comprising a casing having two match receptacles therein with their bottoms inclined toward each other and of unequal depth, whereby the receptacle having the lower bottom may be first discharged of its contents without releasing the matches from the other receptacle, a delivery member slidable between said receptacles and provided with a match receiving cavity, and a transverse partition within the casing and located below the cavity when the delivery plate is in its lowest posit-i011 and forming a support for the delivered match.

3. A match safe comprising a casing having two match receptacles therein with their bottoms inclined toward each other and of unequal depth, a delivery member slidable between said receptacles and provided with a match receiving cavity, and a spring operating to maintain said delivery plate yieldably in its lowest position, adapted to be v arranged to communicate with either of the receptacles.

4. A match safe comprising a casing having two match receptacles therein with their bottoms inclined inwardly and of unequal depth, a delivery member slidable between said receptacles and provided with a match receiving cavity, a vertical partition within the casing and against which said delivery member operates, said partition having a longitudinal slot, a pin within said slot, a bracket carried by said delivery member and slidably engaging said pin, and a spring between said bracket and the body of the vertical partition.
