The invention relates to that class of binders 1n which theniotched leaves are A teccivgcdon posts and held between bars attached to the latter. and the object, of the invention isto provide a binder in which the bars may he separated for the introducio' tio n or reinoval ot'lea Yes without detaching,

On the upper end of ea h post ll is a flared head It of a diameter at the top to match the interior of the sleeve t to permit the post to move telescopically therein while prevented from complete withdrawal lvv the engagement of the head with the llanee U. and the flat upper face ot'the head is drilled axially as at b to receive a spur h riveted to the interior of the upper plate l of the top-bar.
\Vhen the top and bottom-bars are forced toward each other to the limit permitted hy the. posts B the latter are anchored to the upper plate by the engagement of the. spurs F with the recesses 71 and the lateral strains due to the thrust of the slotted locking-slide R against. the heads are thus strongly resisted.
By reason of the flared or coniealtorm of the heads the posts are etlectually held against withdrawal when engaged by the lOPlUn J-Slttlt and accidental release is thus prevented while the reinforcement afforded by the spurs permits the locking-slide to he very iirmly thrust against the heads without danger of distortion or other injury.

The function of the compressorbar is to hold the leaves beneath it in close contact with the bottom-bar and each other when the number is less than sufiicient to fill the space between thetop and bottom-bars. The notches g are preferably inclined or angular the better to resist direct strains and the notches h are each similarly inclined and formed with an offset partially encircling the post when adjacent thereto, thus permitting the compressor-bar to be raised or lowered on the posts by slackening the grip of the locking-plate H thereon while still maininsure against complete removal; the com pressor-bar may hefreed for such removal when desired by turning back the screw Gr far enough to allow thestraight sides of the notches It to coincide with those of the notches g, thus affording sufficient space for the assage of the posts as the compressorbar 18 drawn'away in an angular direction.
Modificationsina be' made in the forms i and proportions without do darting fromthe invention, and parts may e used without the whole. Other forms of compressor-bars may be substituted for the bar shown, and may be used in place of the locking-slide and lockingplate illustrated and described.
I claim 1. In a loose-leaf binder, a bottom bar, a top bar, posts secured to said bottombar and movable with relationto the top bar, conical heads on said posts and locking means carried by said top bar and constructed to engage the conical portions of said heads.
2. In a loose-leaf binder, a top bar, a bottom-bar, posts secured thereto, a'sleeve inclosing .the upper portion of each of said posts andsecured to said top-bar, a head on each of said posts arranged to move teleand locking means carried by said top-bar-and constructed to engage said heads.
3. In a loosc-lcaf binder, n bottonrbar, a top-bar, posts secured to said bottom-bar,

In a loose-leaf binder, a bottom-bar, a top-bar, posts secured to said bottonrbar heads on said posts, each received in said top-ba,r, a sleeve on each of said posts, telescopically inclosing the upper portion thereof and secured to said top-bar, a flange on said sleeve matching said post beneath said head, and locking means carried by said top bar and constructedto engage sai heads.

In a loose-leaf binder, a bottom-bar ha vlng screw threaded sockets therein, a top-bar, posts screw-threaded at their lower ends to'mal'ch to said sockets, heads on said posts each received in said top-bar, a sleeve on each of said posts, telescopically inclosing the u Jpcr portion thereof and secured to sa'id top-liar, a flange on said sleeve matching said post beneath said head, locking 'means carried by said top-bar and construct.-
