Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 30, 1909.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTIS N. BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baxter Springs, in the county of Cherokee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FencelViring Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to machines for weaving wired picket fences and has for its object the provision of a machine in which the weaving disks are held in position by anti-friction rollers, the bearing being on these rollers so that the power necessary to operate the machine is reduced to a minimum.
To this end my invention consists in the construction of a machine having two plates spaced apart and the weaving disks therebetween and held in position by means of the antifriction rollers journaled on one plate and engaging flanges on the edges of the disks, the periphery of the disks being formed with meshing gear teeth, and one of the disks geared to a crank for operating the machine.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my improved machine in operation showing also the tension devices, Fig. 2, a side view of the weaving machine shown partly broken away, and Fig. 3, a fragmental cross section of the weaving machine.
In the drawlngs similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all of the views.
The weaving machine comprises two plates 1 and 2 spaced apart by means of blocks 3 secured between their ends.
4 indicates weaving disks mounted between plates 1 and 2 by means of rollers 5 journaled on plate 1 and engaging the inner sides of flanges 6 on the edges of the disks. The perpheries of the disks 4 are formed with gear teeth 7 that mesh with the gear teeth on adjacent disks.
8 indicates holes in the disks through which the wires A are threaded, and 9 are holes in the plates 1 and 2 in alinement with the holes in the disks.
10 indicates a plate secured to plate 2 by means of strips 11.
12 indicates a gear Wheel journaled on plate 10 and actuated by crank 13, and 14 indicates an idle pinion journaled on plate 10 and geared to gear wheel 12 and one of the disks 4.
It will be understood from this construction that when the gear wheel 12 is rotated by crank 13 the disks 4 will be rotated so that the two wires A threaded through each disk, will be twisted on one another and by placing pickets B between the wires at intervals a picket fence is constructed that is very durable and at the same time quite inexpensive.
15 indicates a base plate secured to the lower ends of plates 1 and 2 and extending at a distance from one side thereof to form a guide to engage the lower ends of the pickets B when placed between the wires and insure making the lower edge of the fence even.
16 indicates plates having laterally projecting teeth 17 between which the wires A are threaded to give tension to the wires while being woven.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. In a fence wiring machine, plates spaced apart, weaving disks rotatably mounted between said plates having intermeshing gear teeth on their peripheries, a flange extending from one side of each disk, antifriction rollers journaled on one of the plates and engaging the flanges on the disks, and means to actuate said disks.

In a fence wiring machine, plates spaced apart, weaving disks rotatably mounted between said plates having intermeshing gear teeth on their peripheries, a flange extending from one side of each disk, antifriction rollers journaled on one of the plates and engaging the flanges on the disks, strips secured to one of the plates, another plate secured to said strips, a power driven gear wheel journaled on the last mentioned plate, and an idle pinion journaled on said plate and meshing with said gear wheel and one of the weaving disks.
3. A fence wiring machine consisting of two plates spaced apart, rollers journaled on one of said plates, weaving disks mounted between the plates and having intermeshing gear teeth on their peripheries, each of said disks having a flange on one of its sides to engage the rollers aforesaid, each of said disks having holes adjacent to its center through which the fence wires are threaded,
