MARCUS W. LEVKOWICZ, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
SALIVA-EJECTOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARCUS \V. LnvKowIoz, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saliva- Ejectors, of which the following is a specification.
The hereinafter described invention rclates to the mouth piece of a saliva ejector for dental work, and the object thereof is to so construct the mouth piece as to enable the same to be readily adjusted to the varying mouth cavities, and by such adjustmenting unable to adapt the ejector to mouth cavities of different shapes, for if the ejectors mouth piece rests easily within or complies to the depth of one mouth cavity, it will not conform to a deeper or shallower cavity of l the next patient; consequently, with such mouth cavities as are too shallow or too deep for the length of the angular extension of the mouth piece, it is with difiiculty that the ejector is maintained within the mouth without discomfort to the patient. Again, where the mouth piece of the ejector consists of a single piece, it is almost impossible to successfully clean the same after the use thereof.
By providing adjustable and detachable sections or members for the mouth piece, the same may be readily regulated to fit the mouth cavity of each patient, and, after the completion of the work, the sections removed or detached for the perfect cleaning thereof.
To comprehend the invention reference should be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a detail view of the mouth piece with the parts separated. Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the adjustable mouth piece; while the slidable adjustment sections shortened their full distance. Fig.
3 is a similar view with the adjustable sec- 4 tions lengthened their full distance.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 is used to designate the tubular body or rigid member of the mouth piece, and 2 an angular ex tension thereof, which, in the present case is formed integral with the body section 1. The rigid member of the mouth piece car- Specification of Letters Patent.

ries an adjustable member, comprising a slidable or telescopic section 3, which terminates in a downwardly extending portion 4:. The section 3, with its downwardly ex 6 tended portion l, shall hereafter be termed an angle section, the same being rotatably and slidably mounted within the extension 2 of the body 1. On the said angle section is slidably mounted the tip carrying section as? 5, which is open at its lowercnd and is provided in the wall. thereof, adjacent its lower end, with one or more perforations 6. This section while slidable on the angle section, is likewise rotatable thereon, and onto the 71 lower end thereof is fitted the closed perforated tip 7. The mentioned sections are not only slidably and rotatably mounted relative to each other, but each section is detachable from its companion section, so that the 75 parts are readily separated, for cleaning purposes, which permits of access being had to each section of the mouth piece when the same is treated after the use thereof for the destroying of germ life.
The described mouth piece may be said to comprise a rigid member and an adjustable member, the adjustable member, in the present case, comprising a series of adjustable sections, which sections are slidable and rotatable relative to each other, whereby the parts may be lengthened and shortened to adjust the mouth piece to cavities of varying depths, and the angle section adjusted laterally to place the same at any desired angle, and thus permit of the mouth piece removing saliva from either side of the patients mouth for the convenience of the operator. This adjustment will be found to be particularly useful where the mouth cavity is an exceedingly shallow one, inasmuchas the suction tip may be arranged at any desired angle to th horizontal.
The slidable adjustment of the angle section permits of the mouth piece being extended or shortened in accordance with the distance 'or depth of the chin of the patient, which serves as a rest for the body of the for the section 5, permits of the suction end of the mouth piece being lengthened or shortened in accordance with the depth of the mouths cavity.
By reason of the various adjustments permitted the mouth piece, the same is capable of being accurately fitted to the mouth cavity of any patient; consequently, the,
annoyance and pain givento a patient-loyam is claimed as new and desired to be pro- I tected by Letters Patent is 1. A month piece for saliva ejectors, the same comprising a rigid member and an adjustable member, and a suction tip detachably connected to the adjustable member.
2. A month piece for saliva ejectors, the same comprising a rigid member and anadjustable member'slidably mounted thereon, and an adjustable suction tip detachably connected to the adjustable member of the mouth piece.
3. A mouth piece for saliva ejectors, the same comprising a rigid member and an adjustable member rotatably mounted thereon, and a suction tip adjustably held to the ad justable member.
4. A month piece for saliva ejectors, the same comprising a rigid member, an angle section adjustably mounted thereon, and a suction tip carried by the angle section.
5. A mouth piece for saliva ejectors, the same comprising a rigid member and an adjustable member slidably and rotatably mounted thereon, a suction tip, and a slid- ---able-connection between the said tip and the adjustable member of the mouth piece.
6. A mouth piece for saliva ejectors for dental work, the same comprising a body portion or rigid member, an angle section adjustable thereon, and a suction tip section adjustably mounted on the said angle section.
7. The combination with an adjustable angle section of a mouth piece for saliva ejectors, of a suction tip section adjustably and detachably mounted thereon, and a suction tip carried by the said section.
8. The combination with the mouth piece of a saliva ejector, of a rigid member and an adjustable member slidably mounted thereon, and a suction tip detachably connected to the adjustable member.
9. The combination with the mouth piece of a saliva ejector, of a suction tip section adjustably connected thereto, and a suction V tip detachably mounted to the said section.
10. A month piece for saliva ejectors, the same comprising a body portion, an angle section slidably and rotatably mounted thereon, and a suction tip section adjustably connected to the angle section.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
