To all whom 'igfi mojl concern:

Beit known that I, JoHN' D. Ronnn'rs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vild Rose, in the county of Waushara and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful-'Improve ments in Binder Attachments, of -Wh1Ch the following 1s a specification.

My invention relates to attachments to" corn binders or the like, to preventthe ears being broken as they pass up the gathering boards. It is ada ted for attachment to the. inside fender r0 and performs the same function as outside fender board. It is so constructed that it may be easily and cheaply manufactured; and can be con-' nected to the binder with little difliculty.

Inthe drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like symbols of reference represent corresponding parts in the several ,views: Figure 1 is a perspective was. r

1 indicates the fender rod of the machine; the attachment; and 3 a strap or the like having an eye encircling the fender rod and resting just below the bend in the fender rod. 4 is an eye formed from the strap 3.

5 is the outside fender board; and 6 bolts inner boar 7 is a hinge and 8 a ivot connecting the forward member of t e hinge 7 to the bracket 9 to permit spring or give to the same.

The device maybe made of sheet steel or wood, as desired.

The operation will be ap arent from the foregoing. The inside fend lower than the outside board, and the Inn fender rod the same height as the outside fender board, the attachment on the rod is the same height and slant as the outside er board being 1 v the board. The hinge on attachment allows the rod to'spring up and down while the pivot 'allows it to move right aiid left. Theprinciple is to give the rod the same motion as if attachment was not on and is used to prevent the ears being torn or pulled oflf by the rod, when the machine is in operation.

Havln now fully descrlbed my invention, what I c mm as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

1. In a harvester, the combination with the gathering board and fender rod of the same, of a late having a movable connection to the ender rod, and means connecting the .plate with the gathering board so as to permit vertical and lateral play of the-same.

2. In a corn harvester, the combinationv to the fender rod, a bracket connected to the gathering board, and means connecting the bracket'to the plate so as to permit vertical and lateral movement of the latter.

3. In ;a corn harvester, the combination with a athering board, of a tender rod supporte above the gathering board, a plate, a strap connected to said plate'and having an eye to receive the fender rod, and means connecting the plate with the gathering board so as to permit vertical and lateral play of said plate.

4. In a harvester, the combination with gathering board, of a fender rod mounted a ovc the same, a late connected to the Patented Feb. 22, 1910.
