SINGLELACTION COIN-CGNTRULLl-ID MECHANISL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Applicntton tiled December 4, 1806.
To all whom i! may concern.'
Ile it known that I, Janes W. ln'rrianson,
n citizen of the United States, residing at. New Yok in the county of New York und State of ew York, have invented certiiin new and useful Improvements in Single- Action Coin-Controlled Mechanism, of which the following ia a specification.
.My invention relates to im rovements iii singe action coin controlle mechanism. By single action, I refer to that ty of vending or renting coin-controlled mac ines which contain n single article or ncknge of articles to be sold or rented. In t is type of `machine, frequent complaint. has been made to the fact that. after a sale .has been inside, the coin chute is free to receive u eeeond coin for which the depositor does not receive value.
The object of iny invention is to prevent .the deposit of n coin in a machine of this ehlracter until the machine has been su plied with a commodity to be delivered in return for the coin de ited.
.A further ob'ect o my invention is to provide a signa ing device whereby an nttendant when duty it il to replenish the boxesfmny, by the sense'of touch determine whether or not 'th'e box is to be refilled thereby obviating the. necessity of manipulating the lock of the box to ascertain whether or not it is empty; and with these and minor objects in view my invention consists of the )arts and combination of parts mi will be ier'einnt'ter more fully pointed out nnd chuined.
Tn the drawings: Figure 1 is ii top plan view of a box and its door showing.y the coin chut-e open; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing tlic coin chute closed: nnd Fi 3 is n side elevation o! the box, und door roken away embodying my invention.
1 represents n box of any approved eonstruction provided with thi` eoin ehiitt- Q.-
and pn opening 3.
4 1s a slot or key-way formed in the top end of whit-h ai coiled sprintr H is wateil. tliil other rnd of tlir coil sprintf being :witted in n recess t) fornirti in the top Structure of' the box.
l0 is nn indicator arm integral with :ind projecting ut right angles from the. Glide 6 rind extending thronli the slot Ii to ii point beyond the box nii its door as clearly shown in Fig. 8.
11 is an indicntor mounted on the slide 6 and shown in Fi 1 as consisting: of tlie word Full and in Fig. 2 as consisting in the Word Empty 12 is u door of suitable construction for boxes of this character provided with tlii` unnnl coin chute 13 which` when the door is in closed poeition, registers with the eoiii slot 2 in the top of the box. 'llie top edge of the door is provided with rrooves 1i :ind 15 adn )ted to receive the im icntor arni 1t) wlientlie door is closed.
When the attendant hns placed the parli4 nge. of goods in the box and before closing the saine. he inserts n key inillie niinill slot 4 shown in Fig. Il and pushes. the slide as' fiir iin it will zo as shown in Fig. l. Now when the box in closed the indieiitor arm l0 enteral groove 14, which will retain it in that position so long as the box is closed. The coin slot is open und the. word Full appears in the openin marked 8. l'f a coin is now inserted und t. ie knob turned as the box is opened, the spring 8, causes the slide (i to move us soon as released into the position filiown in Fig. Q, and when the box is closed iifier using, the indicator erin enters groove and the word Eni ity appears in the opening marked 8. he door is nutonuitieally closed by the spring one end of which is fastened to the box and tliiI other to the door.
The position of the projet-thmr indicator nrln l() ennlilmi the nttelidnnt to deridint u glance whether tht` receptacle contain# goodi- A or not. rind its position may be readily aseei of the box and extending to ii point tit-,vond
the coin chute. with the slot 4.
5 in n slot extending from the front of the box nnd'merging into tho slot 4. said slot extending from the innermost end of the slot, 4. to a point beyond the. middle of the voin slot 2.
6 is n slide slidnbly mounted in ithe slot 4 The. opening 3 registren:
l l l l and 'provided with a shoulder 7 against one tained by the sense of touch` Should thil box be locnted in a darli place.
When the number of boxes iii :i given theater nre taken into consideration, it will at once be apparent that the projection of the indicatingr arm beyond the structuriof the boxes is of material assistance to the iiitendant whose duty is to see that eat-li tio.\ is replenished after each performant-e. The nttenda'nt muy mss dow-n eueli row oiihnir` and by merely eeling for trie indii-:itiir erm.
