NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAB/[ES P. BOARDMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Coalgate, in the county of Coal and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to non-refillable bottles, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a bottle of simple construction in which a ball valve is utilized for preventing. the refilling of the bottle, means being provided for preventing the unseating of the ball valve.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bottle having a contracted neck forming a seat for a ball valve and a spherical battle being provided for holding the ball valve to its seat, said battle being preferably hollow and provided with corrugations and perforations to permit the liquid to pass through or around said bafiie and out through the mouth of the bottle when the latter is tipped or inverted.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a bafile for non-refillable bottles, said baffle being made of a slightly compressible material, whereby it may be inserted within the mouth of the bottle by slight compression, said baflle being provided with corrugations running in opposite directions and perforations between the ribs of the corrugations.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Figure 1 is a central vertical section taken through a bottle made in accordance with my invention, showing the valve and bathe in position to prevent the refilling of the bottle. Fig. 2 is a similar View, showing the bottle inverted to permit the liquid to flow through the neck and out through the mouth of the bottle. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the baffle.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a bottle which may be of any suitable size or contour, said bottle having a reduced neck portion 3 forming an interior seat for a ball valve 4. The neck of the bottle is provided with a swell or enlargement 5, and the mouth 6 of the bottle is slightly contracted. The baflie consists of a hollow Specification of Letters Patent.

sphere 7, the outer surface of which is provided with corrugations consisting of the ribs 8 and the intermediate grooves 9. The ribs 8 and grooves 9 are extended in opposite directions around the surface of the battle, as shown more particularly in Figs. 1 and 2, and intermediate the rib perforations 10 are formed in the grooves 9. The baflle 7 is made of a slightly compressible material, and said baflle is inserted in the mouth 6 of the bottle, and by pressing downward thereon said batlie is inserted in the swell or enlargement 5. After the baffle has been placed within the bottle neck it cannot be removed therefrom. This baflle may be formed of aluminum or other metal or material which may be slightly compressed for insertion in the mouth 6.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that when the bottle is canted to one side, there is a slight movement of the battle toward the mouth suificient to permit the ball 4 to roll into the swell or enlargement 5, the baflie in the meantime practically closing the mouth of the bottle so that the liquid either passes through the battle or around the outside in the grooves and out through the mouth of the bottle. Then the bottle is righted up, the ball valve 4 drops back to its seat, and the battle rests on top of the ball and prevents tampering with the valve.
My invention is of simple construction, can be manufactured at slight cost and operates efficiently for its purpose.
I claim The herein described non-refillable bottle provided with a neck having a contracted portion, an enlargement above the contracted portion, a restricted mouth, said contracted portion forming a valve seat, a ball valve in the neck, and a hollow spherical bafile within the enlarged portion and resting upon the ball valve, said battle being composed of slightly compressible material and provided with exterior corrugations extending in opposite directions around said baflle, the latter being provided with a series of perforations between the corrugations.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES P. BOARDMAN.
