IATI@ PTFE @FFIMFQ OLIVER P. DAVIS, F ALT, COLORADO.
BLOWPIPE.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it. known that I, OLrvnR l". DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ault, in the county of Weld and State ot Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blowpipes, oit which the tollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to blow pipes, and the object is to provide means whereby a needle or brush flame can bev obtained at the will ot the operator.
A still further object of the invention resides particularly in a clamp adapted to be connected with the burner tube of the lamp and provided with a horizontally adjustable member with which is connected Jfor vertical adjustment a blastnozzle which latter is operatively connected with a flexible tube which carries at one end a mouth piece which may be held in the mouth of the operator ot the device whereby it may be blown through to eject from the nozzle the desired air blast.
The above mentioned and other objects are attained by the construction, combina tion and arrangements of parts, as disclosed on the drawing, set torth in this speciication, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specitication and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar' parts in the several views Figure 1 is a side elevation of the blow pipe. Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal section taken through the burner tube. Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on the line 3 2 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4E is a detail vertical section taken through a portion of the blast nozzle.
The device herein shown consists ot a base member 1 which supports a substantially semi-spherical socket member 2 in which is removably mounted a spherical lamp 3. The lamp 3 may be of any suitable construction but is herein shown as being provided with a vertically disposed wick tube 4. A spring clamp 5 surrounds a portion 'of the wick tube and is provided with a pair of spaced ears 6 which receive a clamping bolt 7. When the bolt is disengaged from the ears 6 it will be seen that they can be expanded conveniently and removed from the said wick tube'. The clamp 5 is provided with a horizontally disposed bracket plate 8 in which is formed a longitudinally extending slot 9. A member 10 is mounted upon the Specication of Letters Patent.

bracket plate and is provided with a pair of longitudinally disposed depending flanges 11 which straddle the edge portions of the bracket plate 8 as particularly shown in Fig. 3. A set screw or adjusting member extends through the slot 9 in the bracket plate, and as shown the eXteriorly threaded shank 12 ot the screw is adjustably engaged in a correspondingly formed passage 13 in the memb-er 10. The member 10 is provided at its outer end with a head 14 inwhich is formed a vertical passage 15.
A blast nozzle 16 is shown particularly in F ig. 1 of the drawing and is adjustable vertically in the passage formed in the head 14, a set screw 17 being` employed for holding the nozzle in its adjusted position. The nozzle 16 is of tapered construction throughout its length and preferably comprises a vertical portion 18 and an outwardly eX- tending curved portion 19. A tapered passage 20 is formed in the blast nozzle and communicates at its lower end with a tieXible tube 21. One end of the tube 21 is removably connected with the head portion 22 of the blast nozzle, the other end ot said tube is connected in any suitable manner with a mouth piece 23. The construction of the blast nozzle is such that the passage at the eXtreme outer extremity of the nozzle is very small in comparison to the size of the passage at the lower end of the nozzle whereby air delivered into the nozzle will be discharged therefrom in a tine way.
The construction ot the blow pipe herein described is such that the operator can hold the mouth piece 23 in his mouth, thus giving the operator the free use of both hands in the handling of the article to be operated upon. The blast nozzle as hereinbetore stated may be adjusted vertically or horizontally and may be adjusted at the will ot the operator to produce the desired Haine.
I claim In a blow pipe, a wick tube, a clamp removably engaged with the wick tube and provided with a horizontally disposed bracket plate, said bracket plate having a longitudinally disposed slot formed therein, an adjustable member mounted upon the bracket plate and provided with spaced depending tlanges adapted to straddle the side edges ot the bracket plate, a set screw carried by the said adjustable member and slidable in the slot formed in the bracket plate, a tapered blast nozzle carried by the 1 mouth piece carried by the tube and oonmember and provided with a curved upper neoted With the said blast nozzle. 10 end portion Which is directed toward the In testimony whereof I aliX my signasa-id Wick tube, said blast nozzle being arture in presence of two Witnesses.
ranged for vertical adjustment, means upon OLIVER P. DAVIS.
the said adjustable member adapted to be Witnesses: engaged With the blast nozzle to hold the R. JEREMANEN, same in its adjusted position, and a flexible i J. M. MOORE.
