citizen of the l'nited Staten residing at .\t-
ltttlltt. ill tlie'tonitty of Fulton and Stute of ('ieorgia. have invented eertaiu new uml u.-e
which the following.r is a sfacilieution.
My invention relateto vending machines. and more particularlv to machines of thisl type adapted for selling bottles. or other: round articles.
The inventior will be found especially usel ful in dispensing bottled twvex'nges, but ia not limited to auch use. as it may he eml ployed readily for handling;r other of merchandise.
In some of its a-'peets my invention relates to coin controlled vending machines for delivering any class of articles whatever.
Another object of the invention is to provide an operating.r handle' having automatic means toreturn it to normal position. and having such connection with the delivery mechanism 'that it may he nuinipulated at will. indelwudent of Huid mcwhaulani.
A farther ohjcet i.-: to provide an improved rack or fraaie for holding: the hotties or' other articles and feeding them to the delivery mechanism.
'tth the above and other ohjeetain view, and to improve generally upon the details of such machines. my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts f hereinafter demrrihed. and illustrated inthe l accompanying drawiug.fs. in which Figure 1 ia 'side elevation of the complete machine. the side plate being removed to show the mechanism. Fitz. 2 is a similar view,of the front portion of the machine, the parts being shown `in a ditferent position. F ig. 3 is a. front elevation of -the machine, f parts being broken away for elearness. Fig'` l is a detailed elevation on un enlarged scale. of the delivery mechaniml. ome parts being in section, and others broken away and Fig. 5 is a simlar view showing the reverse lSide of L this mechanism.
Referring to the drawings' in detail. the easing of the machine is indicated by 1..; This u ay be of any suitable. or ornamental l desi n, und may ho fornied of sheet metal or g l l l t classeV l tivi ke. Y

a pivoted door 4. for the iu-crtiou of the hotties or other articles.
My improved rack or frame lfor the hottles comprises plates tiri'. having their opposite eu'ds alternately curved around one anotheigaa shown at S.tl,aud spaced apart to form a way down which the bottle` will roii hy gravitv. the rack provide a curved delivery or feed ltutelformed of the platea 10, 11 as shown in 1:2' dcwiguutes the articles to be Sold. which I will hereinafter refer to as bottles Beneath the lower end of the feed or delivery chute I arrange the delivery drum 13, having. at diametrically opposite points, a pair of longitudinally extendinpl lwckets 14 adapted to receive the hotties. one at a time. ThiI drum is mounted for rotation on a shaft 15,'jourlialed in frame-work which I shall designate in its entirety hv the numeral lt. lnunedi'ately below the delivery drum is urranged the receiver 1i', having the open front end 1S. a# shown.
Secured to the endmf a #haft 10. alao jourinded in the .supporting framework 16, i the operating crank 2i), having.' a handle .t eoil spring 2i is wound around and secured at one end to a drum 23. secured to the shalt. It). und is fastened at its other end to a pin :24. set into the frame 16. Also mounted rigidly ou thin` shaft is a pinion or gear wheel 25. This pinion meshes with a similar pinion 26. secured to a sleeve 2T, mounted loosely on vthe shaft 15. This gear wheel 26 is also rigidly secured to a Cam disk 28, having a iroyectlng cam Q9, the purptm of which will be hereinafter described.
YHet into the cam disk '.8 is a sto i 30. which acta' against abutments 81. carried hy the fr'atnt i6.`to limit the movement of the disk in either direction. At a point diametric- .-\t the lower. forward end of ally oppodte thecam :'29, the dial: 28 is pro- Said eam'29 normally rests against u pin 33, rurried li) n lock 34. pivoted at 3f to a spring pawl 44. leal' Springr Ilt normally times mid l-'k toward said rum. Un.the other .side o the ram disk 2S is pivotally mounted a peiwl 2li, pressed hy mcauof'a fsprinpr 38 into engagement with n uoteh m a ratvhet wheel 89. This ratchet is loosely mounted on the ahat't 15, und is rigidly sethe mmc slaves the cam disk 28, and located very near-thereto.

ofthe eamdiakresultsinfree' lock l to sns 'into one of 'the notchqof ins digli l oamdisk, as clearly 'the im -of the iking d notbd that the handle,
mi n i iiing aux 4o, of meeneem This 'mechanism described constitutes a pawl and ratchet con: ncction between the cam disk 28 and locking disk 40, which locking diak is ragidly connected with the delivery drum 1 by being keyed to the shaft 15. IAtrdiemetrically op: posite points, thc locking disk 40 is provided with notches 4l. 42, the notch'42 bei normnlly cti-incident with the notch 82 in the shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Riveted' or otherwise :gidly secured to 40 is a ratchet wheel 43, virith which the end (Lf) a listedl ri paw 44 c rates, so'as proven t rrrlitzivcmeiit of milde locking diskand drum iii one direction.' Pins 45, 48, are set into this ratchet wheel, a'nd adapted to ebut against the beveled end 47, of a slide 'bar 48, having a slot 40, working over a pin El), as clearly shown in 4 and the purpose of which in be explained below. A; ,the op. poeite side' of the locking disk from theI lock 34 is a coin-controlled latch 51., havinf a heed 52, adapted to normally engage he coincident notches 32, 42, in the um an locking disks and -thus hold the parts against notation. The latch 5l is pivotfd to the frame at 53, and although pre'ierably so gravity, may bs 1provided with a light spring 54, to hold it in its locking position. The rear ond of the latch 51 is extended and bifiircated ca at 55. Just above the bifurcated end of the latch is di the nearl vertical cointhe width o the bfurcated on of said latch 1s slightly leo: than t of the coin-chute and than the dinmeter coin to be u Between the legs of the fork 55 extends a bar 50, connecting the chute 67 with the nar end of the slide ber 48. The chute is pivoted at 59 to the bottom of a ho per 60, and is provided with e spring for returning it to 'tion after being shifted ineens of the ar 48. It will be that the ement of the 84 from the' restraining action of ca 29, and vpermits it to assume an aperture position, ready the lockaa'soon as the drumlhas been mf. proper distance. I will also be' whenweleesed, will be tutomaticslly returned to normal position hieans'of theslprin *22, and` in so doing, e cam disk wil beurned in a direction pppoite to its rst movement, and, since rum and lot-.ki '-dislr are held stat ated the tionary, thepawl 87 will." ride back over the ratchet wh 89. If the handle should be {nomi-el, the drum wiil remain 'carelessly released before reaching its extrema position, it will be thrown' boch toi turned. S
inea, however, neither the lock 84 not'- la the disks in this again moved, of the drum to article deposition completed.
It m thus be seen thet I have provided e very simple and ecict'nt coin-controlled vending mechaniln, andv it in thou t the numerous edvan ofi-*my invention will he readily appreciated bythoee Askilled in the nrt.
What I claim issl. In e vending machine,
