LUBRICATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.

a. citizen of Greece residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lubricators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in lubricators, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character whereby the flow of the lubricant to the differentparts of a machine may be easily and readily turned otf or on.
Another object of the invention is to so arrange the parts that the wicks for carrying the lubricant from the lubricator to the pipes may be quickly withdrawn and replaced by new ones.
In accomplishing the above named objects I employ a number of upright arms each carrying a wire, to which is attached a wick, said arms being attached to a revolving shaft which is journalcd in two brackets, said brackets adapted to be attached to the ordinary lubricator.
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in,

In carrying out my invention as here embodied, A represents the lubricator box, in which is placed the oil, and leading from this box are a number of pipes B which pass through the bottom and extend upward into the box a considerable distance. The box is provided with a cover C hinged thereto by the hinges D, or if found desir able it may be attached in any equivalent manner.
To the rear of the box .is attached a number of hangers E whereby it may be fastened to some object adjacent to the parts to be lubricated.
F represents a bracket having a lip (it formed integral with the upper portion of said bracket, and this lip is adapted to extend over the outside of one end of the box A through the slot. ll in the end of said box. The bracket F and its lip G are provided with openings I, through which pass rivets or their equivalent J, which also pass through the ends of the box for securing the bracket in position. At the lower end of the bracket is formed an opening K, through which passes one end of the rod L, thereby securing the two together, the opposite end of the rod L passing through the opening N1 in the lower end of the bracket N, thercl'iy securing said bracket N to said rod L. The bracket N also has a lip G formed therewith, which pas es over the upper edge of the end of the box A, and this bracket has formed therein openings I through which pass rivets or their equivalentfor attaching the bracket to the box A. Passing through the bracket and the lip and also through the end of the box to which it is attached, is a shaft 0, a portion of which is squared to [it in the squared portion I of the segment Q, whereby said segment may be revolved when said shaft is revolved.
On the shaft 0 is placed a crank It, which is fastened to said shaft by threading a nut S thereon.
To the bracket N fastened another segment T, the teeth of which mesh with the segment Q and the segment T meshes with a third segn'icnt II, having a. squared opening V adapted to [it upon a squared end of the shaft IV, the ends of which are journaled in the brackets F and N. To the shaft IV are attached a number of arms Y, the lower ends of which are reduced. as indicated by Z, said lower ends passing through the shaft IV and being turned up to form heads A, thus preventing them from being removed. In the upper ends of the arms Y are formed the inverted L-shaped slots B, and beneath these are formed openings C, and below these openings are formed the openings D at right angles to said openings C.
To the upper ends of the arms Y are attached the spring actuated clips E by the rivets F which pass through the arms of said clips and the openings D in the arms Y.
In the openings O rest one end of the springs G, the opposite ends of which rest against the lower end of the clips for normally holding the upper ends against the top of the arms Y.
H is a Wire holder having a loop 1 formed at its outer end and a similar loop J formed in proximity to its inner end, said inner end being bent at rightangles to the rest of the device, which is adapted to fit in the inverted L-shaped opening B in the upper end of the arm Y, and when in position the clips E will hold them against accidental displacement.
K denotes wicks, the upper ends of which pass through the loops 1 and J in the holders H, said holders being so curved that when the arms Y are moved over in proximity to the pipes B, said holders will enter said pipes, thus causing a portion of the wick to extend into the pipes, and when in this position the oil will pass along the wick and drop into the pipes B, from which point it will be carried to the different parts of the machine to be lubricated.
The operation of the device is as follows: The wicks are placed in the holders and then the holders are placed in the upper ends of the arms Y and held therein by the clips E. When it is desired to lubricate the parts of the machinery the crank R is turned, causing the segment Q to be partially revolved, which will cause the segment U to do likewise through the segment T. As the segment U is revolved the shaft V] will turn, causing the arms Y to be brought into proximity to the pipes, at which time the holders H carrying the wicks will enter the pipes B. To stop the flow of the lubricant the action upon the crank R is reversed.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is-
1. In a device of the character described, a lubricator box having slots cut in the ends thereof, a cover mounted on the top of said box, pipes leading from said box through the bottom thereof, brackets having lips formed therewith adapted to rest upon the ends of the box within the slots, a rod attached to the lower ends of said brackets for spacing them, a shaft, the ends of which are journaled in said brackets, arms secured to said shaft, holders, means for detachably securing said holders to said arms, and means for revolving the shaft whereby the holders will enter the pipes or be withdrawn therefrom.
2. In a device of the character described, a lubricator box having slots cut in the ends thereof, a cover mounted on the top of said box, pipes leading from said box through the bottom thereof, brackets having lips formed therewith adapted to rest upon the ends of the box within the slots, a rod attached to the lower ends of said brackets for spacing them, a shaft, the ends of which are journaled in said brackets, a segment secured to one end of said shaft, another segment mounted on one of the brackets meshing with the first named segment, a third segment meshing with the last named segment, a shaft secured to the third segment and passing through the bracket and the end of the box, a crank attached to said shaft, arms secured to the first named shaft, and holders carrying wicks detachably secured to the upper ends of the arms.
3. In a device of the character described, a lubricator box having slots cut in the ends thereof, a cover mounted on the top of said box, pipes leading from said box through the bottom thereof, brackets having lips formed therewith adapted to rest upon the ends of the box within the slots, a rod attached to the lower ends of said brackets for spacing them, a shaft, the ends of which are journaled in said brackets, a segment secured to one end of said shaft, another segment mounted on one of the brackets meshing with the first named segment, a third segment meshing with the last named segment, a shaft secured to the third segment and passing through the bracket and the end of the box, a crank attached to said shaft, arms secured to the first named shaft, said arms provided with an inverted L-shaped opening, spring actuated clips pivoted to the upper ends of said arms, and a holder adapted to carry a wick engaging the inverted L- shaped slot, as specified.

In a device of the character described, a lubricator box having slots cut in the ends thereof, a cover mounted on the top of said box, pipes leading from said box through the bottom thereof, brackets having lips formed therewith adapted to rest upon the ends of the box within the slots, a rod attached to the lower ends of said brackets for spacing them, a shaft, the ends of which are j ournaled in said brackets, a segment secured to one end of said shaft, another segment mounted on one of the brackets meshing with the first named segment, a third segment meshing with the last named segment, a shaft secured to the third segment and passing through the bracket and the end of the box, a crank attached to said shaft, arms secured to the first named shaft, said arms provided with an inverted L-shaped open-' ing, a horizontal opening below said L- shaped opening and another horizontal opening below and at right angles to the last named opening, clips, rivets passing through the lower horizontal openings for pivoting said clips to the upper ends of the arms, springs, one end of which engages the upper horizontal openings in the arms, the opposite ends resting against the lower portion of the clips, wire holders, each of which is provided with a loop at its outer end and another loop in proximity to its inner end, said inner end being bent at right angles to the body portion thereof, said holders adapted to engage with the inverted L-shaped openings in the arms and be held therein by the clips, and wicks passing through the loops in the holders.
